Isn't the Canada forum supposed to be a travel forum?

If one is merely interested in "the rules", OMNI is the proper place.

(I personally don't care where it goes or if one even exists.)

I started a thread in Omni, as predicted it sank like a stone.

16 posts in a single thread is pretty good for OMNI. Some threads over there are lucky to get 1-2 responses.

Makivik are in the deal to make a buck. The shareholders would not have it any other way.

As someone who has been chastised by the moderators for mentioning another airline in a post, this definitely should not be here based on my experience. I am really quite surprised that this thread has grown as long as it has.

Only in Canada would we have a 51 post thread (and counting) to discuss whether we should discuss the election :D. Keep those posts coming for the next 35 days.

Simon Sep 9, 2008 7:17 am

My personal view is one of ambivalence. I think the thread has grown this long as we have not been around.

The reason specific airlines are not to be discussed on the AC forum, as is well known to certain posters, is that there are specific forums DESIGNED for those airlines and FF programs.

This one doesn't have a truly obvious home.

We will discuss and get back to you.

OK, so here's a post that's sort of on topic.

How does one track the airplanes that the leaders are using? KVS for example had the Pope's flights to USA and Austrailia listed. (Complete with seat assignments too!)

Are the leaders' planes on KVS / ExpertFlyer etc?

One way would be using the plane's registration.
The liberals are using C-GAIG (according to the thread on the leaders planes.)

I beg to differ as it is in fact very obviously spelled out where that home is in the OT sticky, which is the Canada Forum. If we cannot allow other airlines we shouldn't, IMHO at least, allow general discussion topics such as politics regardless of how frequent or infrequent it may be.

I agree. For those people who are interested (which, evidently, is quite a few), how hard is it to use the drop-down box on each page to jump to the forum you want. Hell, you could even set a bookmark for the duration of the election campaign... My interest is consistency, and I presume the reason the sticky about OT topics was designed expressly to not have to debate each and every time someone feels a particular topic (for whatever reason) is worthy of a topic in the AC forum! No?:confused:

Conservatives Pledge cut to Aviation Fuel Tax

I hope this is within the rules, if not please feel free to delete.

Stephen Harper has promised to cut the Federal Excise tax on Aviation fuel by 2 cents/litre if re-elected (50% cut over 4 years). What type of impact would that have on AC's profitability/fuel surcharges?

Why not get rid of the tax the GTAA (ie you and me) must pay to Ottawa for rent?

The diesel/jet fuel tax reduction would help a lot of business's

Folks, we've listened to the posts on the thread, and have huddled via email to make a ruling on this topic.

In keeping with the mission of FT (Airlines, Miles/Points, Travel), the moderators feel that all election threads belong in the official/unofficial OT forum: Canada.

We are going to add a link to the election thread in a sticky at the top of the AC forum, and are going to stick this thread in Canada to make the topic easy to find (until the election has passed).

On behalf of the AC/Aeroplan Moderators
