I understood the rules were the rules all of the time Grey Cup, Stanley Cup or unnecessary federal election notwithstanding.

I, for one, would like to hear about the Canadian elections and would encourage posts about it in OMNI. It's not all about the U.S. elections there. Don't let them run you off.

For what it's worth, I do read several forums here on FT but two that I don't read are Canada and Toronto. Judging by post activity, it's fair to say that most people here on AC do not read either of those.

The election period will be short and the AC forum is the one that everyone visits. Accordingly I think it would be approrpiate to post in one thread (and one thread only) here on the AC forum.

Naturally, standard rules of engagement should apply - no flame wars, no personal attacks etc. But I do think the thread should be based here.

How about the thread "How will the election affect Aeroplan members in Canada?" Then it's on topic. BTW, you should spend time in the Toronto forum, especially the Leslieville thread. Air Canada planes often fly over Leslieville.

Of course, this is based on the assumption that most people here want to talk about politics -- but are not interested enough to visit another forum. Another alternative would be a redirect thread to another forum ...

Or those not interested in the topic, not open the thread.

Yup, and it's bitten the Liberals in the a**. (They say they are going to buy carbon off-sets and have challenged the other campaigns to also do so.) But obviously this deal was done by the same person who stole the name for the Liberal's "green shift" from a small Toronto eco consultancy. But the 737-200 is an improvement from the 727 they used in the last campaign...which also received similar criticism. The real problem for the Liberals is they have no money and have to rely on friends to get good deals on slightly used airplanes!

It all depends on perspective: if you are interested in Canadian election politics, you want it to stay here... if not, you don't want it any more than any other OT thread...

Yes, technically you are correct, however a Federal Election is an event that is, or should be, important to all Canadians.

No arguments about the importance, but there are countless sources for election information (and this forum wouldn't in practice be about news or information anyway, but, rather, partisan bickering and haranguing). I'm not looking for election information when watching a movie, reading a book, going hiking, mowing the lawn, sitting on a flight or eating my breakfast cereal, either.

There is a time and a place for everything. But it's not always the same place for everything.

I realise there is an arguement that if you don't want to read the thread move on. To me I'll have to read the title to skip over it and thus I'll end up thinking politics and that's not what I want to think about when I'm here.

Just to get to this thread to make a comment I've already had to read about how Dion is a "twit" and a "loser", this is not why I come to Flyertalk.
