Toronto public transit question
I'm going to go to T.O. in October to visit some friends in York.
Right now, I have but a single question: I do not plan on renting a car, as I'm just going to hang out with my friends while there who will do the driving. Without taking a cab, what is the easiest way to use public transit (bus/subway/etc) to get there? They live very close to Bert Robinson Park and Prospect Cemetery. About 2km from the Eglinton West station. Thanks in advance |
Welcome to Toronto
There are actually two ways of getting to Eglinton West by using the TTC - but they both involve taking a bus from Pearson Airport because the subway doesn't run to the airport. The easiest and probably the fastest is to take the Airport Rocket (bus 192). It takes about 20 minutes and drops you off at Kipling station and take the subway. That's the furthest station West on the Bloor line. When you get to the Spadina stop, transfer to the subway north and it's 3 stops to Eg West.
Or you can take the 58A Malton bus at Pearson. It takes you to the the Lawrence West station (about an hour) and then you jump on the subway SOUTH one stop to Eg West. The fare is $2.75 and you must have correct change when you get on the bus (if you only have a $5, for instance, they will not make change and it'll cost you $5 for the ride). You don't have to pay to get on the subway once you get on the bus. Both buses pick up at Terminals 3 first and then Terminal 1 (there is no Terminal 2 anymore) on the arrivals level. All of this info is at www.ttc.ca Have a great trip! Toronto is an amazing place. |

Depending on how much you like to walk and how much luggage you have it's a bit of a hike from Eglinton West to your friend's place. You could take a bus from Eglinton West to get closer but then your up to three or four transfers. What I would do it either take the 58A and get off at Caledonia Road and transfer to the 47 bus south, or take the rocket and get off at Lansdowne and ride the 47 bus north. I think the former is actually the better option. In any case make sure you get a transfer from the driver when you pay your fare.
