iPhone finally announced for Canada
For those FF waiting for the iPhone, we now know that 2008 will be the year of the iPhone for Canada. The only question is, did Ted Rogers give in to a much better data plan (like the unlimited one the Americans have), or did he insist on continuing to gouge Canadians for data? I'm hoping Steve Jobs was waiting all this time until Ted saw the light and reduced his data plan fees. Time will tell!
It should be an interesting few months - hopefully it'll be released soon after the 3G iPhone is (scheduled to be) released in June. see http://www.electronista.com/articles...ogers.confirm/ |
Wonder if this will cover both ROGERS and FIDO? My contract is up in November and my battery is running down...I was told I could renew as soon as June and get a new phone with discounts. The iPhone looks mighty tempting. Came across three unlocked ones already among colleagues who are operating them on the ROGERS or FIDO nets.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the iPhone - I guess I'm in the minority of users. I love my BlackBerry to bits, I just find the iPhone super awkward for typing - to each their own I suppose.

I presume it'll work on any GSM network, therefore Rogers or Fido (they are the same anyway) will work.
Hopefully the 3G iPhone will be out in mid-June. Worst case scenario is to buy an iPhone in the USA, subscribe to a short term voice-only plan from Rogers while waiting for the official Canadian release later this year, and then switch onto that one... From what I've heard, it takes about one week to become facile at typing on the iPhone... |

PS I've always enjoyed this iPhone rant:

Time to buy more Rogers stocks ;-)

The keyboard has improved for the iPhone.
it turns off letters that are impossible to make a word (i.e., you won't type watey or wateg, but get water). And, I'd bet that Data rates will still be exorbinant. You will not see a $60 unlimited data plan... |

Agreed. The iPhone was not made for typing. It's more eye-candy, IMO.

I wish there was another GSM provider. Rogers is getting too monopolistic in its pricing.
There was talk that Telus was thinking of converting its network to GSM a couple of months ago...no news since that report. |

Completely disagree. You should see my 16 year wail out text messages on his. I think like with everything, you get used to it...
Again, compared to BB's, it's not as convenient for emails. |
