Wet passport

Hi folks

I’m a long time lurker – first time poster, I know that this may not be the right forum but I thought that I may get a response here.
The last time that I travelled internationally my passport got wet when I was caught in a rain storm, it did not cause any problems leaving Botswana, Zambia, South Africa or getting back into Canada – but I’m leaving next week for Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia. I had forgotten that it was damaged but now I’m wondering if I should be trying to get another one.

My questions are:

Has anyone had problems travelling with a passport that has been wet? Some of the stamps are illegible but for the most part the passport is fine

Has anyone recently used the urgent service? Does anyone know what Passport Canada defines as urgent?
Thanks in advance for your advice

Welcome to FT Aurora_82 :)

I think it's just safer to get another one. "washed" passport might raise a few red flags and while you could be OK for the most part (as evidenced by your few trips), there is always a slight chance you may run in to trouble.

I think the urgent service's requirement is usually an itiniary and a general explanation so you should be able to hopefully get it before you leave.

Might I also suggest packing a zip lock bag and leave your passport in there while travelling? It keeps it dry and also nice and clean.

Good luck

Hi,

I recently went on a trip and forgotten that the passport had also taken a swim. Had no problem going through Hong Kong, Macau, Beijing and return. Interestingly, the only person who mentioned it were the airline personnel - the counter person and the GA for O8 mentioned I should think about getting a replacement.

Having said that, I'm contemplating getting a new one as well since the picture is harder to see now.

As long as the bio page is not damaged or wrinkly you should be fine. If it is wrinkled, put it under a stack of books the straighten it out before you travel.
