VAA Announces Non-Stop flights to San Francisco on United Airlines
Feb 5, 2008 8:35am

Victoria Airport Authority today announced new non-stop service from Victoria (YYJ) to San Francisco (SFO) on United Airlines, beginning June 5, 2008.

Richard Paquette, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Victoria Airport Authority, commented: “We are delighted to welcome United Airlines to Victoria.

This service, through such an important gateway, brings exciting opportunities to attract new visitors to our wonderful destination.”

He said, “This new flight will certainly be a very convenient option to all Vancouver Island residents headed south to San Francisco, or beyond to a long list of US and International destinations served by United Airlines through SFO.”

The daily service on United Airlines will be operated by United Express with a 66 seat CRJ 700.

The new flight will operate daily on the following schedule:

Departs Time Arrives Time
San Francisco 9:05 am Victoria 11:14 am
Victoria 11:52 am San Francisco 1:56 pm

...and UA also announced YQB-ORD today.

The new flight will operate daily on the following schedule:

<<
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Departs Time Arrives Time
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quebec (YQB) 8:40 a.m. Chicago (ORD) 10:11 a.m.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chicago (ORD) 6:15 p.m. Quebec (YQB) 9:33 p.m.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know that both these flights feed hubs, but is AC missing the boat ?

Note : This is not a UA thread but a thread on AC not capitalizing on possible opportunies

I do hope it lasts longer than YYJ--SLC on DL of the past few springs/summers.
Also I would like better times of day for YYZ--YYJ. Why so late at night on both AC & WestJet??

ranman1973 Nov 28, 2011 1:37 pm

Does anyone know if they've cancelled their early morning flight from YYJ to SFO? Or their late night return flight from SFO to YYJ? These flights are not coming up on any searches for the dates I'm looking for.

Brendan Nov 28, 2011 2:20 pm

Nowadays there are 3 daily AC flights each way YYZ--YYJ & still SFO--YYJ/UA, so my old wishes in #4 have been (almost) answered. Sorry, I have no answer for Ranman re: 2nd flight.

As a Vancouverite, I wish UA would serve BLI...

Ditto. The early morning YYJ-SFO was really convenient.

Best way to get to SFO now?

I could strangle United. Just when I hit 1k, they kill the morning SFO flight I take weekly.

Any other options out there to get to SFO before noon? I hate connecting, but having to do overnight trips every time I go to the bay really sucks. My kids will hate it.

Appreciate your thoughts!

AC via YVR (0700 ex-YYJ) seems the only one. Alaska (0600 ex-YYJ) will get you to SJC before noon or SFO just after, but both involve a 3hour+ wait in SEA. Yawn.

Good news is the morning UA flight returns in April.

Sniffing around Flyertalk I foumd this old thread. We decided to do a last minute trip to Vancouver next week. Flights to SEA were reasonable, but the car rental and parking at the hotel was insane. Flying directly to YVR was too expensive as well.

We found UA saver awards for SFO-YYJ-YVR. I am looking forward to my brief visit to Victoria, and I am glad to bump this 9 year old thread.

Any tips for a 2.5 hour layover in YYJ on Christmas day?

Your 2.5-hour layover is about 1.5 in reality.

1. SFO-YYJ is an international flight. So you will be clearing CBSA at YYJ.

2. Because YYJ-YVR is a domestic flight by AC. You will have to go through airport security again.

(A minor note - Since YYJ is not a preclearance POE, you will have to clear CBP at SFO, assuming your return route is the exact opposite.)

returnoftheyeti Dec 21, 2017 8:30 am

Thanks for the tips. We got lucky with a non-stop yvr-sfo flight home, also as a saver route.

I had counted on CBSS at YYJ, it should be easy I am sure, and obviously I have pleanty of time.

Nothing says Christmas dinner like airport food. :-)
