Is Canada tightening its border security?

I had one friend who was turned away for an old DUI-4 years ago.
There is a fix=but I do no know how stringent they will be.

I don't think there a change in policy here, Canada has been turning back recent (i.e. within the last 5 years) DUIs when they know about them for a long time, what's changing is that the various US authorities are getting better at consolidating these kinds of records so it's now more likely that a past DUI will show up on the screen when you try to cross the border. Time was a misdemeanor DUI wouldn't necessarily make it into FBI files, no longer.

FWIW DUI 4 years ago isn't easily fixed, it's possible (though difficult and potentially expensive) for business travel or for a family emergency but not for tourism, you need to be 5 years past completion of sentence to take advantage of the easier fixes (which are still not necessarily all that easy).
