Elegant Restaurant in Ottawa?
 

Would appreciate the name of a really fine restaurant in Ottawa. I will be entertaining and it's important that it be something elegant. Style of food is unimportant. Help, please? Charli

My two favourites are:

The dining room of the Chateau Laurier would be good, impressive setting.

One of the Downtown hotels has a revolving rooftop restaurant called Merlot, which is nice.

Hy's Steakhouse on Queen St. if the budget permits.

Wakefield Mill (about 30 minutes drive north into Quebec) is a great upscale restaurant if you have a set of wheels. An old mill perched alongside a the waterfalls...

Another reasonable restaurant (although not supper upscale) is the Canal Ritz just off Queen Elizabeth Drive (just south of the Queensway).

And I would also concur with the recommendation for the Chateau Laurier.

I second the dining room of the Laurier.

May I add a second vote for Beckta which IMO is consistently one of the best dining experiences in Canada. Wine list is excellent and reasonably priced and the food is top drawer. The restuarant is fairly informal (which I like) but service is very good. Go for the Tasting Menu with matching wines to really see what they can do with food and wine.
