Getting invoice with tax for refund
Not sure if this is the right place for this so please move if necessary.
I bought 8 nights in the Farimont Chateau Whistler from Hotels.com and was billed in UK pounds. Having now got back, I want to claim back the Canadian hotel taxes, as allowed. Unfortunately my hotels.com invoice does not split out taxes, it groups it with charges and other fees. I emailed them to ask me to send it split out but no reply. Any other way I can get this so I can claim back the taxes? Thanks |
Unfortunately, there is no way to get your tax back if you book with a discounter like hotels.com. You'll need the itemized tax on a receipt issued by a Canadian company with a proper GST number.
Booking with a discounter, they will never want to disclose to you the rate they negotiated with the hotel directly by issuing you an itemized receipt. Even if they do, they've no GST number. So likely you won't get a refund. |
For the future with the abolition of the rebate program this will no longer be an issue ...

Effective 1 April 2007. Although the legistlation hasn't been passed, the CRA is holding any claims submitted for after that date.
See http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/nonresi...tors/qa-e.html Rebates may still be available on certain tour packages though, but not rebates that individuals apply for. |
I will move this to a more appropriate forum.
