US to International Transit at YVR
Is airside transit available at YVR now?
I remember it used to be available but was closed post 9/11. All passengers need to go through Canadian immigration even for international transit. Is this still the case? |

No, it is no longer available post 9/11. You can read the procedure here: http://yvr.ca/guide/around/connecting.asp?id=usa2int Personally, I think this is dumb - The airport was specifically designed to support International -> USA travel without requiring Canada Customs and Immigrations, but bureaucrats will be bureaucrats - "Perception of safety and all that." Sorry to drag up this old thread...
As the link above is still active, I assume the information is still current. I'll be transiting through YVR (arriving from DFW on AA and departing the same day on BA to LHR). My Dad will be on the same BA flight, but originating from YVR. I'm trying to figure out where is the best place to meet him. In theory, I should arrive at YVR long before he does. Where is the best place to meet him? BA check-in counters? It sounds like I'll be landside anyway...? |
If you are going to go landside anyways, then I'd say either meet in front of the BA desks or meet at the bottom of the Fairmont Hotel Entrance (airport hotel) at the far right of the US check-in area if you don't mind a bit of a walk.
But you could also meet in the BA lounge if you want to do bypass Canadian customs. But doubt the lounge has that much to do if you are talking about a 5 or 6 hour transit. |
