Parking in Whistler
From www.whistler.ca:
"Overnight parking for visitors on overnight or multi-day hikes in Garibaldi Park (Singing Pass) is available in Lot 4 by the signs" Anyone know if this is accurate? Could we park there as an alternative to the high hotel parking rates even if we are not hiking the Pass (seems like it would be tough to know if we aren't)? If not, can anyone suggest affordable strategies for parking in Whistler in late September? Thanks! P.S. I know I sound cheap but our hotel wants $30/night!!! |

Mrs T did not like her walk in the rain even though I insisted it was great exercise. :) |
I was in Whistler with my wife & son a few months back and we just had to suck up the charges, but what struck me was the fact I didn't really need a car in Whistler.
We walked, we rented cycles and the car didn't move for the duration of our stay (3 nights IIRC). Avis have an office right in town - have you looked at doing two one-way rentals (I assume you're not driving from Chicago...) And on a similar vein you could always take the train or coach up to Whistler from Vancouver. |
I was just there in August and we sucked it up and paid the (high) Fairmont rates. However, on our walk between the hotel and the village (those of you who are familiar with Fairmont in Whistler may know what I am talking about) there was a small gravel lot which seemed to have much better rates (30%+ off the hotel price IIRC.)

Thanks all!

I would like to bump this for those of us taking advantage of the March 99 per night Fairmont rate. I have reserched this a bit, and found a Hertz rental for 75 all in for a 3 day weekend. This is much cheaper than us taking a shuttle. Hoping that we can park in Lot 4, since we will not need the vehicle until we drive back to the airport.
For those of you familiar, how far is Lot 4 from Fairmont? (Lot 4 allows overnight parking) Walkable? Is there the free Whistler shuttle that comes by, and if so, how often? |
If you look at this map you can see the free lots just to the left of the 'pushpin' that is the Fairmont. As you can also see, there's a raging creek between the two spots, so what you have to do is walk down Blackcomb way a bit, cross a nice covered footbridge over the creek and then you're at the parking lot. It's about a 10 minute walk.
http://tinyurl.com/ar5tbq Here's a zoomed-in version showing where the covered footbridge and parking lots are: http://tinyurl.com/cqy8sy Note that you can get into the Chateau at the bottom corner closes to Blackcomb way - This shaves off a lot of time. |
Thanks very much! I am hearing mixed reviews that Yes, it is free overnight, and then no, it is not. Emailed whistler municipality to find out.

For those that do a search on this thread at some point, I have received a reply from Whistler. Would rather not make it public
Fascinating. I should ping Whistler myself and ask, being a local and all. Might have something to do with Olympic security planning... |
Looking for an update for some friends who were asking - Is there any *free* overnight parking at Whistler any more? Sounds like no, but I thought I'd ask...
