SkypeIn not available in Canada. Why?
I've been a big user ok Skype (while travelling and at home), even more since the local calls are free in North America.
However, I would be interested in getting my own Skype number, called SkypeIn, but it's not available in Canada, but it is in the US... Anyone have an idea why? |
No good answer on this yet. You are not the only one asking.
http://forum.skype.com/viewtopic.php?t=54879 There is an alternative mentioned... but it is not without its bugs, so be cautious. http://www.vbuzzer.com/index.php?aid=torontoata MCM. |
It probably has to do with some kind of CRTC regulation. The same people that force us to listen to/watch garbage Canadian content on the radio and TV

As to Canadian content being garbage, that's a somewhat offensive statement. Especially given that the bulk of the crap coming from the US is truly garbage. (Not that I really watch all that much TV anyway.) |
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that *all* Canadian content is garbage. What I meant is that the CRTC forces us to listen/watch Canadian content regardless if it's any good just for the sake of it being Canadian. It would be nice if we had the freedom to weed out the crap so we could only listen/watch the best in Canadian content. Another example of intrusive CRTC is the fact that XM Radio is unable to offer a full channel line-up in Canada due to Canadian content rules.
To summarize it all, CRTC = bad for the Canadian consumer |
Closest thing to an official explanation from Skype, with holes poked by Neil.
