It's primarily seafood and is located a very pleasant walk (enjoy the yachts and seaplanes) along the waterfront from the Fairmont in the direction of the Westin/Stanley Park.

That looks excellent - but how family friendly would it be? We're not looking for a video game arcade in the corner, but don't want to feel totally out of place... Would it work for lunch on a Saturday maybe???

Thanks for the recommendation,

Tony

I've never been there for lunch, but every time I've been there in the evening there have been multiple large groups. Not boisterous, but not an intimate dining place either. This is not a stuffy establishment. Also, they have a deck which is more relaxed.

When are your YVR dates? I arrive on the 11th or 12th.

I'll no doubt be slagged mercilessly for suggesting it, but a good middle-of-the-road place to go for a steak is The Keg. My English relatives always enjoy it there. They're not Morton's, but you'll get an nice slice of meat & they're family-friendly. The nearest one to your hotel is at the corner of Dusmuir and Hornby Streets.

Another suggestion would be to try some good Chinese food if you're in Vancouver. A popular location for us is Hon's on Robson. They're on Robson Street between Jervis and Broughton:

Give Milestone's a try. Again, very middle-of-the-road and family friendly. The nearest one to your hotel is also on Robson street, between Thurlow and Bute Streets. There's also one down on English bay that will have great views. at Denman and Davie Streets:

Another "Family Friendly" location for Brunch is White Spot. The two locations nearest to your hotel are at Georgia & Seymour streets, or Georgia & Cardero streets.

The one @ Cardero is down by Stanley Park, which tends to be on most must-see lists.

Good call on Cardero's. I've only been there twice for lunch (not recently tho) but enjoyed it both times. I'd call it family friendly, at least on the weekends. I think you'd hit a bit of the business crowd during lunch and after work on the weekdays though. They have an open kitchen concept (ie. You can see them prepping your food) which I think is designed to compete as a slightly cooler Milestones.

And thanks to all for this info too...

We managed both Whitespot for breakfast (couple of blocks East of the Fairmont) and Milestones for lunch (English Bay). Both worked well.

I went to Gotham with some of the other delgates at the conference so had a "grown-up" meal that way, whilst my wife tried out both the Kegs. Apparently the food was great but the service in the one near Robson was pretty slow.

Also managed to have dinner on the patio outside Steamworks one evening - again a good spot, although YVR clearly has some "social problems". Is the government doing anything about these?

Not much. The vast majority of the issues are related to drug use and there is little political will to implement the difficult policies require to deal with the problem. Add to the mix the mild climate in Vancouver and you find we have a higher-than-average percentage of street people.
