It's in our price range, parking is $11 per day. Site pix look good.

Thanks.

That's the hotel we stayed at. Very convenient. Very nice (albeit small) room. Fabulous croissants.

Let us know how it went for you.

Be sure that your rental car is allowed to cross the border into Canada. Otherwise driving up I-93 to I-91 / A-55 to A20 is a nice drive.

Disappointed that we can't make the fireworks festival, but any other advice is welcome. Still looking for a place to stay in the $75 - $100US range.

We will have a car so staying outside the old city is doable, I guess, but looking for alternatives because of parking problem in old city.

We will be flying Southwest to Manchester, N.H. and driving from there because we have free tix. Anybody done this?

Any other advice is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I was just going to do it. Not lie if they asked, but not volunteer that I was crossing the border either.

Am I just asking for trouble? What is the risk? Will I have to pay more if I take the car across the border?

While you may be able to do this, you should ask the rental car company in advance. Since MHT is not that close to the border, they may not be prepared for it. You are supposed to carry a special insurance card with you in Canada that you obtain from your primary auto insurance carrier that I believe the police can demand of you if you have an accident. Some rental car companies use GPS systems to track their vehicles and can jack up rates & fees if you take the car across borders (state or country) that are not specifically authorized in the rental agreement. Better to ask now than get an unpleasant surprise later.

Just returned from QC

Hassle with Budget because they couldn't agree on whether or not we needed non resident insurance card to cross the border. MHT counter said didn't need it, called Budget, they said we did, talked to MHT supervisor, said we didn't need it, talked with Budget phone rep, said we did, talked with phone rep supervisor, said we didn't.

Ended up not getting one because MHT didn't really know what we were talking about.

Loved QC, hated the food prices. Could not find a mid-day meal for less than $20 each at any restaurant in upper or lower town. (Except for Subway and McD's) Adding drinks, taxes and tips, made it really outrageous for lunch.

Evening meals were of course the same way. Even Table de Hote prices were $30 - $40 everywhere. And believe me, we looked ;)

Stayed at the Hotel Acadia, breakfast there was $7, a bargain if you eat breakfast (we don't.)

So we paid more for food than we would have liked, but overall had a wonderful time, and felt like we were in Paris again.

It was very quiet - so much so that we commented how we don't miss the loud booming cars and loud booming people and trucks and horns and sirens, etc. etc.

Didn't care for Isle d' Orleans, just a bunch of farms. We live in flyover country where farms and fresh strawberries are easy to find.

Canada Day was a nightmare, traffic wise. The Grand Allee was closed except for two lanes one in and one out to accomodate a bike race. So of course, we got right in the middle of it and wasted a couple hours. :td:

Enjoyed Rue St. Jean and Rue St. Paul and Rue Cartier.

I'm glad I got to see the Frontenac, but once you've seen one large old hotel, you've seen them all ;) I mean wood is wood, and crystal is crystal, and gilding is guilding. OK, Versailles spoiled us! :p

Crossing the border into Canada was harder than getting into U.S., but both were painless.

Thanks to all for suggestions and comments. We would go back again.
