A less than amusing sight at airport security

A young 20ish gentleman jumped the rope charged through the Nexus line, bypassing the long normal line. I noticed him when he shouted at Catsa1 rudely, “I am in a hurry, I have a flight to catch”. When Catsa1 reviewed his boarding pass, to my surprise, she let him through, I kind of went ...… I am sure about 100 people in the normal line are whining by now.

He came to the Nexus x-ray/metal detector, bypassing the 5 of us Nexus Pax who are already in line and tried to run through the detector with his bag. Catsa2&3 turn him around. He started to swear at the process and dumped his bag on the belt (ahead of all of the rest of us), Catsa4 took his boarding pass, and he went through detector again. Light beeping again, Catsa2 told him to take jacket off. He took off his jacket and dump it on the belt, I saw that it still have a $3900 price tag dangling from the collar and scarf with a $380 price tag attached. By now the cursing has hit volume setting 10, audible to everyone in the security hall.

Detector light went on again, he was instructed to empty his pocket. Out came 2 bricks of $100 bills, brand new, crisp, wrapped in plastic – I am poor, I have never seen cash like that, I don’t even know how much a wrapped brick of $100 is. The Catsas made him run the bricks through the x-ray. Light came on again, he was wanded, his metal belt and expensive looking boots were the culprits.

On the other side, Catsa5 saw something in the bag and Catsa6 wanted to examine his bag, out came brand new still sealed in box Macbook and Ipads. All have price tags on them still in plastic. I was thinking that Catsa6 would have insisted that he takes the computer out of the box but he let him through without examining the computer itself.

I swear, I expected airport security to be waiting on the other side to escort this young 20ish gentleman away but nope, no security there. After all that, he stuffed everything back into the bag, continued to curse the inconvenience caused by Catsa (not sure, I thought I saw the middle finger over his head back at everyone in security) and walked towards an AC flight to YUL I think...

All I can think of afterwards was “wow”, can’t believe he got away with cutting through lines, caused a bunch of delays for everyone else and cursing at the Catsas… Since when did Canada become such as lawless country - lawless may be a strong word but there were no negative consequences to the person who ignored all of the rules.

In my experience, people who have this kind of attitude usually do run into consequences. It's just that it might not happen through one trip through airport security. I'm certain he'll eventually run into the wrong side of the law somewhere.

It's not really karma . . . it's just that inevitably you will p*** off the wrong person. He was lucky this time.

Which prove what many people believed, CATSA has bark but no teeth.

Let see that in Customs Hall. I saw someone jump the rope yelling he was in a hurry. CBSA sent him to secondary.

The stack of $100 bills is likely $10000.
Which airport was this at?
In July, I saw a gate in YVR domestic where you have to scan BP and NEXUS to get access to the NEXUS line.

This is sooo true. And he will squeal like a stuck pig when it happens. Probably yell discrimination, or try to make someone else pay for his missed flight, or something along those lines. I believe it actually is Karma, which basically is inevitability. Hope it gets him sooner rather than later. I dislike entitled people even more than stupid people.

Most of the CATSA people are doing a job they likely don't much care for and are just trying to get through the shift with as few headaches as possible. Can't blame them, but it would have been nice to see one of their guys clothesline this douche. His behaviour will catch up with him eventually.
