Anyone been to Hotel Gander?
A search got me absolutely nothing on this hotel or town. Anyone familiar with the hotel. Recent visits? Do they have hi-speed internet?

Here's a web site for them with an 800 number. The web site refers to a phone port which would indicate to me they have only dial up. Things are pretty laid back in Newfoundland so a call maybe in order to see if hi speed has been installed and the web site is not up to date.
If indeed they have only dialup, AOL works from there as well as most other dial up services that have an 800 number. But double check to be sure if you're using something other than AOL. Newfoundlanders are the friendliest people on the planet so enjoy your time there. Bring your umbrella. http://www.hotelgander.com/ |
I stayed at this hotel in the summer of 2004. There was no high-speed Internet access. As the 800 number for my ISP was quite expensive and I needed to be online for several hours, I ended up purchasing a one-month subscription from Sympatico, an ISP with a local access number. I used the hotel's address for the billing.
They are a member of the Travellers Rewards loyalty program along many 'independant' properties across the country which are owned by CHIP Hospitality. Consumer website is http://www.greatcanadianhotels.com/ For a nice hike, cross the highway and go down to the lake via the abandoned ski hills. The hotel's restaurant/bar were adequate, probably above average for Gander. The (now departed) General Manager told me that the hotel is dead during the winter with only a handful of rooms occupied during the December-February/March seasons. When I was there it was pretty full, but there was some convention going on. |
