Cabbie Rules

Hey,

For the first time in a while i took a cab ride in toronto, and was surprised by one particular rule: Cab Drivers are not ALLOWED to recommend a hotel unless specifically requested to by a passenger. This may seem logical, but it is quite possible that you forget to ask and that the cab driver knows the perfect place... could be a missed oppportunity

:td:

I think that's a law everywhere... though it is rarely enforced.

Time was hotels and restaurants paid off cabbies to funnel passengers to them, so you were not getting the best hotel, you were getting the most crooked.

In most cases these days a taxi driver is about the last person I'd ask for such a recommendation, most barely even know the city outside the major thoroughfares, the day when a cabbie was plugged in to anything but where to score crack is long gone.
