Best hotel in Montreal
What do you guys think is the best hotel in Montreal??
Ritz Carlton, Loews Vogue, Fairmont, any others? |
Fairmount (Le Reine Elizabeth) is a busy, older hotel in the center of town. A very good business hotel (with some very bad rooms), but certainly not the best in town.
Ritz-Carlton is one of the worst in the chain: outdated, lots of small rooms, and a lobby that looks like the building used to be a parking garage. Le St-James is an excellent hotel. The InterContinental shares the block with the St-James and is also a very good hotel. I've heard good things about some smaller hotels (the Gault, among others) but haven't stayed in them so can't comment. |
I stayed at Hotel Nelligan last November. It's right in the center of the old city in a great location. The room was very cozy, with a lovely bed, exposed brick walls, sitting area with fireplace, and a great bathroom. The service was good if a little cold. I'd recommend it and would stay there again.

RC Montreal is bad compared to other RCs, but it is certainly superior in every respect to any Holiday Inn with which I am familiar.
|
I like the Hotel Vogue.
I'd also vote for the St. Paul hotel, which is a boutique, and very chic. |
The new W Hotel also looks quite good; another good choice is Hotel Le Germain, in Rue President Kennedy, block south of Sherbrooke, between Metcalf and Mansfield (I think).....
|
Heard good things about the Hotel Versailles, will be staying here in a little over a week: http://www.versailleshotels.com/

The Ritz is poor. I love the Omni Mont Royal, great staff and service. The Loews Vogue is another hotel I really love.
|
I haven't stayed there, only been in for a drink, but I saw a couple rooms on a tour from the night manager: Le St.-James is, imho, the nicest hotel in Montreal.
|
The Omni (originally built and conceived as a Four Seasons) is in a great location and is quite nice. The new Sofitel on Sherbrooke St, sort of kitty corner from the Ritz, is also well liked.

Anyone ever stay at the Delta Hotel, on University?
Thanks. |

Actually, the Delta isn't that badly located. You can go out the "back" door, which is thru the lobby-level bar, and you're into an extension of the underground city; it's a passageway thru the IATA building that leads to the Square Victoria Metro station and the World Trade Center building and the INter-Continental hotel.
That puts you on the edge of Old Montreal, at St-Jacques and St-Pierre, a couple of blocks from Notre Dame, without stepping a foot outside in the cold or rain. And the metro can deposit you anywhere else downtown if you go up to Berri and transfer. Besides, at Montreal's cab fares, you're up the hill in no time for about C$4. I've stayed there a few times in the last few years: no regrets, and the rates were good. The Delta doesn't count as luxurious, but its rooms are certainly nice, and the facilities are Hyatt-plus, in my book. I still can't figure out why Hyatt didn't choose to run it, because it fits with most of their newer hotels. Note that the Delta Montreal is *NOT* the Delta Centre-Ville, where I haven't stayed in many years, so I cannot comment on it. |
Does anyone have a recent update on this? I'm looking at the St. James or the Gault and would appreciate any comparisons as to comfort of rooms, neighborhood, proximity to shopping and great food.
