Recommendations please.....
 

Hi..My wife and I will be attending a family wedding in Toronto come this September. Checking the current fares out of London, Detroit is a fair bit less expensive than Toronto. Would you recommend picking up a rental car in Detroit and driving ? Or is that a big No No ? Any other thoughts ? Appreciate the input, Mike.

DTW to border 30-45 mins
border crossing (depending on time of day) 10-45 mins. Closer to 10-15 if you are nowhere near rush hour.
border to Toronto 3.5 hours

My suggestion, fly into Buffalo, 15-20mins from the border and 1.5 from there to Toronto.

I take it you have no permanent resident status or canadian citizenship. because if you do, you cannot rent a car in the US and drive into Canada.

Thanks...hadn't thought of BUF as an option...checking Expedia, ITN and TCook, it's also at least £100 less expensive using US Airways or Continental , surprise, surprise! Also checked with Avis London....going into Canada they just need advice and provide some kind of insurance document, (they say at no extra cost). I think this ties in with what I remember a couple of years back when we drove from Seattle up to Vancouver...anyway, thanks for the welcome advice.

That is correct, your rental will mention canada and that is about all. No extra charges.
