TK flight parked at remote stand at YYZ. Why?

Hello yesterday we arrived on TK flight from IST and when we arrived at YYZ we taxied to an odd location as I was expecting to taxi to the T1 like before but instead we parked then taken by bus to the T1 for customs and claim our bags. Anyone else had this happen? is this an overflow thing? or is this a new terminal to be used by Intl flights? I don't know if this is the right forum to ask but figure is AC forum someone here should know. Thanks

Pearson has a variety of parking spots away from T1 and T3 for planes, that are assigned for operational reasons. Could be that T1 didn’t have room for another 777 in the international area. Maybe there was a minor security issue that they didn’t talk to you about that made them not want to bring it up to the terminal. Maybe TK got cheap.

Options for off-terminal parking include the infield terminal (gates 521-531). I’ve seen that used during construction, but was also used during the Syrian refugee airlift. I think what you got, however, was one of the parking spots (H1-H21) on the tarmac where the old T2 used to be. A bus from there takes you to a door in the basement at the end of the US/Intl pier, I think E83 or E84, and you get to walk to customs from there.

They have been using infield terminal for overflows during summer. Depending on demand, it can be an extension of either T1 or T3. It was T1 last year, and it was T3 in 2019.

There is always a shortage of E gates at the hammerhead. YUL is even worse, but at least they have the mobile lounges to take you directly off the plane for an airside tour.

I don't think this post belongs to AC forum tough.

Indeed, so I've moved it to the Canada forum. - The AC Forum Moderator

It's interesting that SAS will continue to operate alongside the other four Star Alliance carriers after leaving Star on August 31, until the end of October.

I would expect SAS to eventually relocate to T3 to locate alongside AF and KL.

It doesn't explicitly say that SAS will be at T1 until the end of October. Given that the infield terminal is used by both T1 and T3 passengers SAS could continue to use the infield terminal for the summer even if they move their operations to T3. In the updated (post Sept 1) lounge page for SAS they now list the KLM lounge in T3 and not any of the T1 lounges.

SAS stops flying to YYZ by end of September
It makes sense that any potential move to T3 doesnt happen until flights resume in April
