India Suspends Visa Services for Canadians

I am booked to New Delhi in the near future and was about to apply for a 30-day tourist visa (which can only be applied for within the 30 days prior to travel).

With the news that India has suspended visa services for Canadians, which I assume includes e-Tourist visas, should I anticipate that Air Canada will allow me to cancel or rebook my flight (provided that this is not sorted out in the very near future)?

Moderator note: this thread started life in the Air Canada forum, but quickly became a much more wide-ranging discussion. Posts up to this one were made while the thread was in the AC forum.

I doubt it affects eVisa applications online. They're closing the physical centres, the eVisa is direct application online.

As of this morning, e visa is still available. Although I'm doubtful if it will continue to be available as things are going. There is also a strong possibility that India may suspend previously issued visas for Canadians, as was done during Covid. This has been sporadically reported in Indian media.

Traveling to DEL today. I have a 5 year eVisa that has been approved. Hopefully things with ho smoothly on arrival in DEL. I previously had a 10 year Visa that was cancelled due to Covid and for Canadians the 10 year visas were not reinstated, for people from other countries they did reinstate them.
I'll report my experience.

Try applying for eVisa right away, you may get lucky. They can be applied for further out from the trip and price is same regardless of how long Visa is good for.

Smoothly? Have you landed in DEL before

Good luck! i think you will be fine and agree doesn't seem eVisa has been cancelled but the whole process is quite confusing and really threw us for a loop during the COVID cancellation, and I wouldn't be optimistic that eVisa won't get axed in the coming days

And I'm pretty sure it's just the change fee. Fare difference still applies.

Fascinating that both countries being part of the Commonwealth doesn't seem to mean much.

I also just applied this morning just before reading https://www.hindustantimes.com/india...295704588.html which states and eVisa are also suspended for Canadians. Hopefully it still goes through.

Is there a place I can see the goodwill policy referenced above? I don't see it yet on the AC site.

Valid for flights from Canada to India up to October 15th. Not much help for my ex-DEL mistake fare in November so I guess waiting and hoping is the only option.

No guarantee, but AC has been known to extend the time frames on these goodwill policies as the situation warrants.
