New NAVCAN ATC contract

Not sure if this needs it's own thread, but CATCA (Canadian Air Traffic Control Association) just signed a tentitve agreement with NAV CANADA expiring April 1st, 2028. Hopefully it passes and provides some stability in that sector.

NavCanada is cutting down a lot and handing even approach control to a remote sight in some cases.

Isn't approach already done by terminal controllers at centres anyway?

Depends on the airport and airspace class. There is a huge variety of ways this happens. In YYC yes Terminal lines them up and tower takes over for at a certain distance/marker.
