Yes, that’s tons of time. Connections at YVR can involve a fair bit of walking, but they tend to go smoothly. Unless your first flight is extremely late, you will have lots of time to eat, shop, or visit a lounge.

What about going through US border control?
Isn't that supposed to happen at YVR?
Would I need to exit to landside and clear again security and then go to US immigratoon?

You clear immigration first and then you clear security again for the US side. But it all normally goes fairly smooth, I've done it many many times. And yes, you stay inside the airport no need to go outside. You will have plenty of time, as noted above.

Security is first. Then US immigration. This protects unarmed US agents from anyone with a firearm. This was changed about 10 years ago.

Even if i cleared security in Toronto I still have to go through security in Vancouver? Like I come from downtown Vancouver and not from a safe airport?

You would not have to reclear security if you were connecting to a Cdn airport such as Victoria. But for USA you must reclear security prior to US Customs.

Americans do not trust anyone, not even Canadians. Never mind the fact that all kinds of stuff gets through American security

Canada wont let US airport border guards carry guns. So they now have security first before customs. Which means checked luggage cannot be immediately inspected.

Can I suggest downloading the US CBP app. You fill out the info before going to CBP in Vancouver and then use a special line. Last time in YUL the line for had five passengers and two agents. The regular line had fifty passengers, a lot with your children and three agents.

Also, as you have already answered the questions on the app you may have to answer less questions at the booth.

Is there also a Nexus/ Global Entry/Tsa Precheck?
I may get PreCheck but my companion doesn't have Nexus and she might not.
Is that CBP app called Mobile Passport Control (MPC)?
Thanks.

This is not to downplay anyone else’s question or concern. But really, 2:30 is so much time to make a connection. Of course there’s always the chance the inbound flight will be canceled or depart hours late or something else. We can’t mitigate all risk when traveling. But when you are booking a connecting flight through an efficient airport and all on one airline, 2:30 is tons of time. There’s just no reason to fret.

I see AC is selling a HKG-YVR-YYZ with 1h10 connection at YVR. Not sure how feasible it is but if it's possible to book that on their website, I suppose it's legal, even with immigration and customs to go through. Anyone tried such a tight international to domestic connection and made it through to tell a story?

Tight but possible. Assuming ontime arrival at gate, it'll depend on how quickly you get off the a/c and how many pax are trying the same ITD connection (assuming it's permitted which isn't guaranteed), and how fast you can get to the domestic departure gate (last time I did this, a shuttle bus ride was required).
