Qantas finally back to the gate after ~5 hours on the ground.

CI on the deicing pad and MU pushing back. Also AC35 was the last of the Oz flights to finally get cancelled a short while ago.

Can anyone explain to a noob why AM got deiced and left but BA and QF among others after circling through the deicing pad returned to gate?

I am so glad I made the decision to come back to Vancouver last Sunday. My original flight this morning from YYZ has already been cancelled.

Actually, all YVR-bound flight from YYZ before 9am has been cancelled. And the cancellation may propagate.

My best wishes are for those stranded in YVR and YYZ. Hopefully this will not ruin their Xmas.

CI31 became airborne. Lucky bird to be the first to fly out of YVR in quite a while.

On the other hand, it appears all AC flights into YVR before 11:30am today not airborne yet have already been cancelled.
Short hair Francis likes this.

AC65 (yvr-bkk 12/20) and AC66 got cancelled just as we arrived in our BKK hotel.

//Only 26 butt-in-seat flying hours to position for our first AC66 J flight. (las-sea-dxb-han-bkk).

Ouch ......

Anyone knows what is going on with a bunch of flights arrived many hours ago but still did not make to the gates? Including F8201, AC1055, WS127, and F8500?

On the other hand, SQ48 landed about 20 minutes ago and appeared to head straight to the gate.

Looks like AC1055 PHX-YVR landed 10:06pm, been stuck without a gate still as of 6:20am next day brutal. Especially on a narrow body 737Max8

I do wonder, whats stopping YVR from using air stairs, bussing the pax to terminal versus waiting for a gate?

my initial thought was because AC1055 is an intl flight. But now that you mentioned SQ48 that theory is out the window. Makes zero sense right now.

From what I saw last night, Im not sure how much luck theyd have had getting air stairs through the snow.

I am incredibly grateful for the blind luck that had us land on AC345 last night, and make it to the gate after only half an hour of driving around.

Seriously doubt the feasibility to implement an open air deplaning and bussing now in the snowstorm.

YOW has a few gates where there is a jet bridge and also a ramp to the ground outside. They are used for boarding those Canadian North flights which you need to board through the rear door when its a combi aircraft. I guess without the ramp the boarding wont be efficient for those will suitcase. Though for the airports in the North, I have seen all kinds of setups. Open air boarding is common, and there often is a stair from terminal building to the ramp.

Just shows it moving and arrived at gate....Canada customs may have closed overnight.....i suspect that is what the issue may have been too.

Whats shocking....that the airport staff (AC and YVR), this should have been a #1 priority to get these people off....what a joke of AC and YVR airport.....i would almost try my luck opening the door and sliding out....at least they have a constitutional obligation to protect you from the elements.....its seems you have better treatment as an accused felon than these passengers......

Its only 10 cm of snow and -5C.....i can hike to the terminal with my carry on just fine.....

What a joke and doesnt start the busiest time for airlines in three years very well....
