Hello All - not sure if there is a better place to ask this question:

What time should we arrive for a flight departing 1:30PM to the USA from YVR on a Sunday --
(We are starting from YVR .. so no connections involved).

We have GE, US Passport, and will have checked baggage. WIll have priority check-in as well with AA.

About 11AM? or will 11:30AM be sufficient?

With your parameters, 1130 should be more than sufficient time even with the cruise crowd leaving town.

Hi everyone - Apologies if this isn't the right forum (please feel free to redirect me if there's a better place).

Two of my older relatives (in their late 70s) will be flying into YVR on the same flight from for a week-long stay in May. I'll be flying into YVR from the US (on United) from SFO and arriving about an 1.5 hours earlier and plan on only having a carry-on.

I'm wondering where would be the best place to meet them, primarily to help with their luggage but of course earlier too (if possible and if needed).

Initially I thought I'd be able to just meet them at the gate, naively assuming that all international gates would be in the same spot, but from reading online, it sounds like US flights arrive to E gates and other international flights come through D gates, and there might be an initial Canadian customs checkpoint for US arrivals to go through (I don't have Nexus or anything expedited). My questions are:
  1. Where would be the "easiest" place for us to meet up with the least hassle? It sounds like it might be at baggage claim?
  2. I assume that since I don't have a boarding pass, I won't be able to get to the D gates after arriving and going through any initial customs checkpoints, so meeting them at their gate (or anywhere between their gate and baggage claim) is out?
Thanks very much in advance for any help. I've been looking online but it's hard to know exactly what to search for, and info and terminal maps differ depending on whether they're from pre-, during-, post-pandemic, or more recent so I thought I'd ask on this forum.

THank you again. WE arrived at 11:15 and had plenty of time for everything.

Departure and arrival are segregated so meeting at the gate per se doesn't work. Not that I've ever had any reason to try it but you may be able to walk in the arrivals lane to where they'd join the int'l arrivals flow of traffic (go up a level from gate/departure level) as traffic from the two piers meet as they descend to immigration. Just won't be any place to sit while you are waiting, IIRC. I don't think there are any places to sit until you clear immigration and get to baggage claim. No facilities other than toilets.

Got it. Thank you for the advice and providing more detail. It does sound like baggage claim would be the best plan then. Much appreciated!

Connecting in YVR with bags: what to do in YVR for ~6 hours

Mrs Jrobin and I are flying YYZ-YVR on Porter Airlines arriving 12:30pm and YVR-AKL-RAR leaving about 8:55pm on Air New Zealand. Mrs. Jrobin will be using a wheelchair.
1. I am uncertain if the bags will be checked through even if flights are on a single PNR.
2. If we have to pick up luggage in YVR, any suggestions for what to do for ~6 hours in YVR until Air New Zealand checkin. Is there a landside lounge?
Thanks

Transborder only for nexus interview and come back?

For the two part nexus interview can I buy a refundable ticket to the U.S., and do the interview and then come back to Vancouver without flying?

Now that transborder has later ops than when the OP was written, do we know the current times of the Domestic->Int'l->US preclearance path? In the OP, it was closing earlier than the Domestic->Landside->US preclearance path. Is that still the case?

Any Amex/PP lounge options for YYJ-YVR-ORD with the ORD flight at 2330? The transborder PP closes at 8pm. Theoretically if I did the Domestic -> Int'l -> US preclearance path I would have access to the Skyteam lounge... But they could deny entry since not on an Int'l itinerary, just as the MLL apparently does.

YVR ORD is international, contrary to many Americans

You would have to be escorted back through Canada Customs. Not really any different than deciding not to fly or having your flight cancelled after already going through US CBP.

Reports are that the Int'l MLL does not permit access to guests travelling on a transborder ticket.
YVR - ORD departs from a transborder gate.

Not sure about YVR but YYZ T3 there is no requirement to reclear Canada Customs if you miss your US flight. Ive done this several times. Only in YYZ T1.
