YVR - domestic then transborder to US

how quick / easy is it to go from domestic arrival at YVR to transborder terminal to US?

first leg - domestic flight in canada
second leg - ex-YVR flight heading to US

no checked bag, have NEXUS, flying september 2022

would you dare to buy a AC through-ticket with 1h transit time?

the line for connections at CBP is a lot shorter than coming from groundside so this should be fine. I've made it from the furthest end of the domestic concourse to the transborder gates in 15-20 minutes consistently the last few times I've done what you're proposing.

thanks. this is reassuring to know.

at YVR I will obviously have to go through the Nexus machine and also another round of security screening to enter US, right?

how is the Nexus security screening these days? need to remove laptop, shoes etc?

Security first, then Nexus machine. Can't comment on Nexus security at YVR as mine has been expired for 6 months.

the last few times i've flown out of yvr transborder the nexus line has fed into the priority security line and you have the same screening process as all passengers (ie remove shoes, laptop, toiletries in clear bag). i've mostly flown out early am though so it's possible they open a real nexus line later in the day when it gets busier

thanks

is 1h transit time also ok in the reverse direction these days?

first leg - ex-US flight into YVR
second leg - domestic flight in canada

Rookie question, can I remain airside to go from YVR Dom to Transborder? Or do I have to exit and go through the formalities landslide?

Nexus newbie question. Last time I went YVR dom to transborder I didn't have nexus. The line went out the door heading towards the international section. There isn't a large queuing area inside before security. Wasn't too long and I had time.

This time I finally got my nexus. I believe there is a separate line inside before security for nexus holders. There wasn't any indication of it outside the doors. Do people just walk to the front through the doors to the nexus line?
Thanks.

when I went through recently, there was no way I could connect to nexus line at YVR on airside. I was forced to exit to landside first.

in other words, as far as I could tell, there is only one area for nexus queue. it is in the E section. follow the nexus signs and US transborder sign as you enter YVR airport

Just a reminder that once you pass the DOM->INTL boarding pass check near Gate 50, you can't go back to the public side and must use the sterile US Connections facility next to D Gate security.

Once past the additional security screening in the connections facility, there are Global Entry kiosks immediately after that you can use to get a GE receipt.

I never wanted to exit to landside

but I couldn't find a way to do what you described. is what you described accessible to everyone regardless of where your DOM plane land in YVR?

maybe I should have followed the INTL sign first, after landing in YVR. but I just keep following the US TB sign, so maybe that is why I inadvertently ended up at landside then have to enter back to airside again as if I am not a connecting pax

It might've also been the time you arrived from your DOM flight. The sterile US Connections Facility is open at 0700 and closes at 1900 sharp since CATSA stops processing the last US cnx pax at 1900. Before or after these times, you need to exit landside and go through CATSA from E Gate check-in.

Otherwise, the signage points towards D Gates(INTL) and the airside US Cnx Facility during these hours. If you're arriving anytime between 0630-0700, its better to wait in C Gates until the airside US cnx facility opens at 0700 since the connections CATSA/USCBP line is always faster. No priority/NEXUS/GE/TSAPre line at the moment due to the drop in demand from COVID.

!

US CBP had gone home for the day by that time. If you had disclosed more information to begin with, you would have received advice to go to INTL as that's where your flight would have left from.
