Just out of random curiosity, on the press release it says the following:
Air travellers who qualify as fully vaccinated and who are selected for mandatory random testing, as well as air travellers who do not qualify as fully vaccinated, will receive an email notification within 15 minutes of completing their customs declaration. |
The testing will be completed either at an in-person appointment at select testing locations or via a virtual appointment for a swab test. |
We arrive on the 20th. FFS
is it PCR? I assume yes? We were all positive around 15-20 June, wonder what the chances are of the PCR being positive a month on? Edit: finally tested negative around 23/25 June, so not even that long ago. :/ People here seem to be recommending to just if ore and not test when told to test, but that seems like a very very risky strategy especially as a tourist/non Canadian... |

Do you have proof of a positive PCR result? That should exempt you from the random test if selected.
3 weeks after going negative on antigen seems very high risk for the other two :( |
If it was really about surveillance of new variants it should be anonymous testing. It makes absolutely no sense to keep enforcing these weird federal 10 day quarantines long after everyone has stopped caring about COVID, including our provincial governments.

Does that mean if you complete the Advance CBSA Declaration on the ArriveCAN app in the 72 hours before you travel, you'd find out before you even start travelling whether or not you'd been selected, or are you possibly selected at customs in the airport? |

According to one article I read, the test are only at YYZ, YVR, YUL, and YYC - does that mean you could get around the possibility of being selected by flying into another airport (i.e. YQB)?

CBC explains how it will work. It seems like the government has managed to find a way to make a bad thing even worse. I guess there’s a chance that returning travelers will have to go to a local pharmacy to get tested—rather an inconvenience. Also, 15 minutes after going through customs I’m often already in a cab down the 401, so even if there is an option to grab a kit at the airport, I may miss it.

I think I read you can request a home test to be sent to your address? That's what I was hoping.

Does this apply to all International arrivals or just Canadian citizens returning back? I'm supposed to fly up to Vancouver for a night from California then fly on to South America the next day. Not sure how I would do this test if selected since I won't have a car to get to these testing locations.
