As the other person said, the NEXUS area has a separate entrance. It is directly opposite the main entrance. So if you are facing the line to enter security, turn to the left, then turn down the check-in aisle there, then follow the signs. AFAIK it’s always open. But it isn’t always any faster.
and yes, I find the line is always short, though for some reason, at least every time In through, they seem to be more thorough in the ttp security line than the regular.

Canada has the Verified Traveller Program, which provides a similar security screening experience to TSA PreCheck in the US.

EDI-YYZ-YVR-HNL Preclearance Help Request
Hoping that someone here might be able to help with a question:
I'm considering an itinerary that is EDI-YYZ-YVR-HNL. I assume that preclearance for me would be in YVR? But, the I only have a 79 minute connection in YVR on the way to HNL. Is my preclearance really at YVR, or YYZ? If in YVR, that does not seem like sufficient time to retrieve bags, go through clearance and recheck. Does anyone have experience who can enlighten me on the process that would be followed on this itinerary? Many thanks! |

Your preclearance is absolutely in YVR. I don't know about the rest (whether your bags will be checked through as you didn't specify airlines or single/multiple tickets) but bear in mind that the E gates where the US flights depart from are a looooooong walk from the domestic gates where your YYZ-YVR flight will arrive. Have a look at this page https://www.yvr.ca/-/media/yvr/docum...glish-2017.pdf
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...19a441f85.jpeg Mahalo. This itinerary is 100% Air Canada. from what you said, it looks impossible if I need to check/retreive/recheck bags. |

With all AC flights, you should not have to pick up/recheck bags at YVR so you are good there. I suspect you are in J/F as well so I would be comfortable with 80 minutes in your situation, assuming the YYZ is fairly on time.

That sounds good. J/F it is. So precedence doesn’t require baggage to be presented….

That 79 minute connection in YVR assumes flights are operating on schedule. We're talking about Air Canada here, with its worst in the world on time performance, so that is never a safe assumption.
For 747FC ... if you can juggle your schedule to provide more buffer in both YYZ and YVR, it will make for a far less stressful experience. Personally, I don't book any connections involving AC in under two hours because with AC's unreliability, many times even that is a close shave. Also consider connections in SFO or LAX rather than YVR, which might give your schedule more wiggle room. You'd fly the last leg (or last two legs) on United, rather than AC, so you're more likely to at least arrive on schedule. |
Connecting pax not separated anymore?
During my last 2 trips connecting pax at YYZ pre-clearance didn't have a separate lane anymore. We had to join the general line. The result was waiting over a hour. Was it just a coincidence or is this a new standard?

T1 or T3?

Security or immigration? If no GE, why not use the passport app to clear faster?
I'm not eligible for the passport app as this is only for US citizens and Canadian B1 and B2. I cross the border as a TN. I'm not eligible for Nexus either, as I travel with tools. Tools are considered commercial goods and one shouldn't travel with these on Nexus. Maybe I should check out GE. |

Immigration. Security is still separate and I didn't experience any delays there lately.

We just cleared through YYZ returning to the US. Both my wife and I have GE and we just walked right past the CATSA staff at the entry to the Nexus/GE line and showed the result of our GE mobile app. No demands for our GE cards.
Has CATSA stopped requiring the cards or is this just a result of using the GE mobile app? |
How long does it take to clear preclearance at YYZ T1 in the morning (~9am) usually without NEXUS and is YUL much better?
