Any insight into times in the morning?
Next week, I'll know be leaving on a UA flight at 10:30 (Tuesday, which should, I presume, be a little quieter than Monday). I think, at least pre-COVID, the most busy times were flights in the morning up until about 9 - 9:30, This is a little past that, so hopefully I'll miss the bulk of the crowd, but maybe there will still be some on the tail end? I have GE, so that customs portion, at least, should be quicker. Though I'm kind of wondering if it being post-labor day, and biz. travel not back for the most part, if it will be quieter again. Is arriving around 8:30 (T - 2 hours) too early? On the risk spectrum of arriving too early or too late, I'm usually on the side of arriving earlier,. But with the situation in general, the TB lounges all seemingly closed, and limited services once all cleared, I'm thinking I'd rather spend less time in the terminal. Thoughts? |

Labor Day 4pm - left for the airport to arrive an hour before boarding and found the security and preclearance area almost empty.
There IS a Nexus/Global Entry priority lane that you enter to the left of the regular lane after handing over your affidavit sheet. Since the area was almost empty, it was hard to tell how useful it would be on a busy morning, but it’s definitely there. I did not see any American Express or Star Gold priority lane although my boarding pass had a Priority notation. From handing over my affidavit to clearing Global Entry was about 10 mins including putting on my shoes and waiting for one of my bags to “searched”. USA immigration saw my GE receipt and didn’t even want to talk to me, just waved me through. So far no one has asked to look at my test result but I uploaded a copy to Air Canada during check in so maybe that’s good enough. I will take a guess that that Tuesday morning will definitely not be as easy as this afternoon so plan accordingly. |
One of our party will come a week later on SFO via YYZ on 8 am flight. Any differences in procedure.
She has nexus and E35 status. Should she upload (?where) her travel attestation form and covid test result? |

Three of us will go on Sat morning on a flight from YVR to SFO on Oct 8.
Two of us have nexus; one expired nexus. I am a SE - so I could also get concierge's help -esp as my mother-in-law will need wheelchair help. So when should I arrive? Do I fill out the traveler attestation form electronically at on-line check-in? Do I upload the covid (presumably rapid antigen) test electronically when I get it? The fourth of our party will come a week later on SFO via YYZ. Any differences in procedure. She has nexus and E35 status. The last time I had to deal with this fiasco in person, after two hours I just grabbed a couple wheelchairs and pushed my parents through by myself. |
Any recent experiences with US preclearance at YYZ T1? My flight is Saturday morning around 11am, I'm a Canadian citizen without Nexus...I'm hoping arriving at the airport 3 hours early is enough.

Customs YYZ for people with AC status
Does the Terminal 1 YYZ have priority lines for security and US Customs?
How is the system at YYZ, I know there was issues with the summer rush 5-6 weeks ago. What are the times looking like now? Is 90 min enough to connect to trans border or international? Thanks |

Thanks The baggage system will always suffer during high loads as if bags are put too close together the x-rays down the line have to stop and reverse to get an accurate scan. that's why it sometimes stop As for your other questions i unfortunately don't know. |
Connecting to Transborder
September 27 I arrived from YVR first thing in the morning, connecting to LGA. Arrived and walked through to the F (I think, connecting to US ) wing security station which only opens at ~6:15am. By the time I got there a long line had formed out past the customer service desk and in to the corridor. Though signed for it they were not operating the priority lane. Line moved quickly enough, maybe took 20 minutes of slow shuffling to get to the front.
GE kiosks were working (this time) with no wait (time of day) and no wait to see the agent.

Ugh--reading through this thread, I'm now a little worried about our upcoming flights this Saturday. We are arriving from Edmonton, connecting through YYZ, headed to LGA (all on Air Canada in business class). The connection time is 90 minutes. We have no special Global Entry/NEXUS or anything like that. Is that going to be enough to make it through everything and get to our connecting flight, which departs YYZ at 6:30pm? What happens if we miss it? (we've never missed a connecting flight anywhere before)

Anyone know if there is a NEXUS/Globla Entry security lane in T3 right now? I assume the kiosks are still open for customs, but is there a separate line for security currently?

Let us know how it goes. I have a similar issue next weekend . I assume you’d just be booked on the next flight (if there’s room).
Our flight from YEG arrived slightly late at YYZ--we were out of the plane and through the door at Terminal 1's gate D28 at around 5:15pm (we had been sitting in row 2, business class, on Air Canada). Our LGA flight was on time, scheduled to depart at 6:30pm, boarding at 6:05pm at gate F64--so that gave us only 1:15 to make the connection. Having heard the horror stories, I was already mentally preparing myself for missing the flight. I felt it was impossible to make it. We hustled (not a sprint, but a very brisk walk, almost a trot at times), following the "Connections to USA - F Gates" signs, until we reached security. There was hardly anyone there! Just one or two people in front of us. No priority security lineup that I could see (not needed, certainly, given how few people there were). My wife's carryon bag sailed through, but mine got stopped--I had forgotten to take a baggie of ice out of my cooler, which I'd filled up post-security in Edmonton. We next proceeded to the "holding area" where you have to wait to have your initials show up on the TV screen so that you can proceed to US Customs. Here was where we hit the big delay. Our incoming Edmonton flight was still showing as "Waiting...", meaning the bags hadn't even yet begun to be processed. Fearing we'd miss our flight, we spoke to a very down-to-earth guy at the Baggage Services counter, explained we were rushing to make our flight, and was there anything he could do...? It seems as though the deal is that they need a photograph of your bag coming through the luggage system before you can go to US Customs...but as long as one person in your party has a bag that gets photo'ed, he can manually fill out a form on a piece of paper attesting that yours is also going to arrive. Which this guy did for us, once my wife's bag was photographed (he kept checking his screen to see if either of our bags had been photographed). We then sped out of there (now at a short run) at around 5:50. I was now pretty sure we were going to miss our flight. It turned out that US Customs is just a 30-second walk from the holding area....and lo and behold, when we got there, THERE WAS NO ONE THERE. There were definitely queueing ropes set up that could handle a fairly good lineup of people, but when we arrived, there was ZERO PEOPLE in front of us and no one behind us. Four or five agents on duty--but no lineup. Interestingly....we never had to fill out the form we've always had to fill out which asks if you've been on a farm, are you bringing meat into the USA, etc. etc. I'm not sure why, or if we just missed it and the US Customs agent never checked, or what. The agent also did not ask to see our antigen test proof (we had been asked to show it in Edmonton when we checked in), nor did he ask to see our attestation forms which we'd filled out. He did, however, check the form our Baggage Services guy had filled out for us, and stamped it. In any case, we of course sailed through Customs, and the F Gates are just a couple of minutes away, so we arrived at gate F64 at around 5:55pm, ten minutes ahead of boarding and 35 minutes ahead of the scheduled departure time. As it turned out, our flight wound up being delayed about 20 minutes anyway.....because it had to wait for bags to be loaded on from other connecting flights. |
Any more recent experiences - I'm going to be doing YYZ-DEN on AC next week on the morning flight - 9:15a departure, so peak times. I have Nexus, though since I haven't seen additional reports, am I assuming the separate Nexus/GE entrance is still not open, and so one line to security? Is the premium security line open (not sure if I can use it, though have a US-based Amex plat which I assume should work if that part is running again, or at minimum would have pre-COVID).
Anything else special that needs to be done for the security/customs process compared to pre-COVID, aside from the form you have to fill out - I know AC has it linked to download so I can fill it out before I get to the airport. |
