I chose not to bump my Western Canada shutdown thread as it's two and a half years old. Here is what CBC.ca says:

Greyhound's problem in Ontario was that it could not compete with publicly-funded inner city transit. GO Transit scooped up the profitable GTHA, Niagara Peninsula and central Ontario routes (Barrie, Peterborough, Waterloo Region) while Ontario Northland covers Northern Ontario. Where Greyhound has pulled out of they were quickly replaced by small municipally-funded transit operations such as Guelph Owen Sound Transportation.
Greyhound is also responsible for some of its own demise because their buses, stations and customer service were substandard compared to GO.
