Hotel application has opened as well, with a deadline of Feb 10 midnight to submit: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-heal...ted-hotel.html Nothing really of note, here, other than it appears you will be forced to pay for a 3-night stay regardless of when you get your test result (and are therefore free to leave). |

Will a snowbird couple staying together in the same room be charged $2,000 or $4,000? What if someone cannot afford to pay? Will CRA go after them? What if it is a non-resident CDN citizen who doesn’t file Cdn tax returns?

Whether $2,000 or $4,000, you will get free wifi :D. And short physically distanced "yard time" for smokers, perhaps even others?
I am a little surprised that hotels will be able to host regular guests at the same time. Granted, separate floors/elevators/staircases, but if these travelling lepers are so dangerous, it doesn't sound all that safe. I thought one justification of the high price tag of the 3-day stay could be to compensate the hotel for losing the regular revenue stream, but that doesn't seem to be a factor. I didn't see anything in the application process that deals with cost or an actual bid/tender call. What do you make of this: Able to load proposed rate for this initiative in the Apollo Global Distribution System (GDS) with a unique rate code. Alternatively, if the property is not on the Apollo GDS, it must be able to provide a unique rate code in order for the identified travel management company to book the rate. |
IMO $2000 seems like a lot to pay for three nights in an airport hotel, including internet and meals, but no housekeeping services and no use of the hotel's facilities such as health clubs and pools. I doubt that they're planning to include a bottle of champagne with every dinner.
Will people also be allowed to order (via contactless delivery) snacks and other food from delivery services or the hotel's room service? |

But on Feb. 2, Trudeau indicated that it could be weeks before the hotel quarantine requirement takes effect. "We hope to have that implemented within the month — weeks to come," he said in French at a news conference. "People are working very hard to create a system so that it is established before people start travelling for the March break." |
