Canada passport offices reopening?

Our family has tickets for a non-urgent trip in August but needs new passports for our two oldest kids. While obviously no one here knows the future, given Canada's ever-improving Covid situation I was wondering what my fellow Canadians believe might be a realistic estimate for the passport offices reopening?

Or are there any insiders that might have any more specific details they'd be willing to share?

While the right person for this question is François-Philippe Champagne, based on what I have researched about Canada's situation so far, your family can certainly kiss the trip goodbye, that Passport Canada will not issue non-urgent passports anytime soon, at least before the end of August.

If Canada believes things are getting back to normal (or at least operational capacity) soon, then many financial assistance, including Canada Emergency Response Benefit, will not extend to at least the end of August, with a possibility of further extension.

That is a clear sign that non-essential services, like passports for Canadian not in an urgency, will be on hold indefinitely.

Are you sure you will be able to enter the country to which you intend to travel?

I am sure there will be some countries willing to allow entries from Canada. ButI believe this question is moot when OP's children can't even leave the country.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I will continue to hope that our dwindling number of new daily cases (~400) will encourage a more rapid resumption of services but will not count on it!

Many European countries appear ready to welcome Canadian tourists as of July 1. But I realize even that is far from guaranteed :)

Me thinks you are asking the wrong question ? The real question is how do I get my passports renewed while the offices remain closed ?
I visited my local office and found a note on the door - if you need emergency passport service call 1 800 567 6868. I suggest you give them a call and report back ?

Thank you but unfortunately such services are only offered for ‘urgent’ trips.

I would wait to hear the latest decisions before I make any concrete travel plans.

I posted the toll free # so other FTs could use it. If you knew about it already, why did you not do so ??
Also, we are less than 8 weeks from August. How is that not urgent ? Let's say they re-open by mid-July. IMO you are already too late for int'l travel in August.
If you post questions for assistance next time, hopefully you need it ? Otherwise, its p****** in the wind.

You are still not understanding. Let me try again. While I certainly consider my trip urgent, Passport Canada absolutely does not and thus will not provide me emergency passport service. This phone number is of no use to myself or other FTs in my situation.

I am well aware of the long shot of my situation. I am crossing my fingers and hoping I will be able to pay extra to have the service expedited once they reopen. If not, well, that's the way she goes sometimes.

Generally, urgency requires proof. A reservation is not sufficient to justify the urgency.

That's why there is no need to try.

Haha nevermind:

"Passport and biometrics services will not be available during the first phase of the reopening of Service Canada Centres."

Can't have us visiting those horrible Covid infested hotspots like Iceland and Bermuda!

From Quebec, probably not!
