Weather in YUL
 

How is the weather in YUL in December? More specifically, mid-December. Does it often snow at that time? I can deal with the cold, but I'd rather not get delayed by snowy weather.

23 inches of snow is the average in December. The good news is they are used to it and does not have the same negative impact snow would have in other regions less used to it

There is a good chance for snowfall in YUL on any given day from November to April. Historical averages don't really tell you much for specific travel dates - a short-term weather forecast does.

As mapleg said, the city and the airport are used to snow and know how to handle it. But snow removal, deicing etc. will still lead to delayed flights, and in the case of massively reduced system capacity, some flights on high-frequency routes (LGA, YYZ, YTZ etc.) will often be cancelled to take pressure off the system.

If you don't want to take a chance with weather-related delays, avoid Canada in the winter. Oh - and BOS too! :p

Being from Boston, I know how snow works, which is why I'd rather avoid YUL if it's prone to snow :D I'm trying to find a place to go for a short trip to use up my remaining PTO before the end of the year.

It snowed last night and some of it stuck if that helps you make a decision ;)

LOL. Like BOS weather is any better. At least YUL knows how to deal with snow.

BTW, your bigger challenge is AA (& other US carriers) operate into YUL using ERJ-175s via PHL. Much more reliable non stop service is offered on WS using & 737B.

If I was truly worried about reliability, I would take WS any day over AA.

I was going to take either AC or WS :D

I can deal with snow. I just would prefer not to while on a short vacation.

I can't understand someone from Boston talking about snow delays in Montreal. They're practically neighbours in terms of weather. I would focus more on what you are interested in doing with your few days of vacation. If it were me, in mid-December, I'd probably opt for a visit Quebec City with staying at the Chateau Frontenac being a must along with a visit to the German Christmas Market.
