Car/Taxi apps in YVR
 

I know there's no Uber or other ridesharing apps in Vancouver. I like the ease and convenience of e-hailing and app payment, so I want an alternative.

Has anyone used other car or taxi apps, in YVR or elsewhere? The two I am aware of are "Zoro" and "The Ride" neither of which seem to have many reviews...

I haven't used any of the generic apps, but I have used the apps the cab company supply.

I've had a couple of bad experiences with the apps, so I still just call.

Zoro is garbage. Half the time the driver picks up a different fare on his way to my location. Just call - it's still the most reliable way in Vancouver.

I used yellow taxi's one. It is tolerable. I'd consider using it if I had wifi but no (free) phone.

I'd echo gglave. Uber/Lyft they aren't.

I'm never using it again.

The first time I used it I made the mistake of entering my destination (YVR).

The app then proceeded to dispatch a car from YVR that drove all the way to my house to get me, then back to YVR. I get why it happened - That way the guy is back where he does pickups, but I waited 20 minutes at 5am, instead of the usual five.

The second time I made a booking that was 'accepted by Car Y187.' When he never showed up, I called and they dispatched another car. Three months later and that booking still shows in the app as 'open.' Apparently the app still thinks I'm sitting on my front porch waiting for Car Y187,

Unfortunately, you don't get the convenience on "e-hailing" cabs as much here. Though the normal ones are good enough and the drivers are all pretty nice, IMO.:)

Oh, no doubt the taxis (and drivers) are much better than most places stateside.
