Fire all of them.

There's standard CATSA, which is borderline incompetence.

And then there's this.

My wife has an artificial hip, the security drill is over the top. People have artificial joints, figure out how to deal with it better than a drug mule pat down.

Some one at the top of CATSA needs a 2x4 up the side of the head

What are labour relations like at CATSA?

Because this smells suspiciously like a middle finger being extended to management as much as anything else.

While this situation involved an Air Canada passenger as it really had nothing to do with the airline beyond that the thread has been relocated to the Canada forum for further discussion.

There's a very easy way he could have made his flight.

Say: "I'm female".

This guy is incredibly patient. If it had been me, I'd have lost it at the airport.

At the end of the day, blame whoever drafted the regulation for not including the weasel words "wherever practical" - it prevents this kind of idiotic "work to rule" behaviour.

CATSA's apology letter was well written and appeared sincere.

...and at best you still wouldn't have gotten on your flight and at worst you would have been in handcuffs.

As bad as this was, I can't imagine the TSA compensating a passenger for their incompetence, even of this scale...

Your comment is being very nice to them in the Canadian way.

The big issue is CATSA is outsourced, at least at YYZ. There is no accountability chain nor hiring standard in basic communication skill in Canada's official languages.

if this happened in the US, u'd bet some lawyer would be pushing for a discrimination or some kind of disability lawsuit,
although i'm not sure if this particularly polite fellow would sue

Plain and simple barbarians. The guy should take CATSA to human right tribunal and teach them a good lesson!

He could have dropped trou, no?

"Am I good to go ladies?"

Just what is the law in canada about indecent exposure? To either elicit a sexual response, offend the person observing.... or to gratify the person doing so? A voluntary strip would be legal.

And if it were in US, wouldn't be surprised to land on no fly list.

Not sure of the level of temper tantrum, but when I deal with imbeciles, I take a deep breath and think "yes, despite all this, I don't want to be banned from flying."
