Saskatoon to US via YYC - airport question
 

Hello all,

I will be traveling from Saskatoon to the US via YYC all on Air Canada. I have a 4-hour layover and would like to meet up with friends at the airport. I was wondering if this would be possible? I am concerned about the location of the luggage pickup and drop off for the connection...do I have to pick up my luggage in YYC before customs? Will my suitcase be sitting somewhere waiting for me and appearing "unclaimed" because I haven't gone through customs? Could someone please explain to me the connection and customs procedure for YYC?

You will have to pick up your luggage before clearing customs. In normal circumstances you wouldn't exit into the arrivals area but would pick up your bags and follow signs to American customs and immigration. In this case you pick up your bags and take them to the arrivals area (keep the tags on) and visit with your friend and then go past the check-in counters in the departures area to the American customs and immigration area. You will then pass through customs/immigration, drop off your bags and then pass through security.
