Jump On Flyaways - Any Experience?
Does anyone have any experience with Jump On Flyaways? Read an article in the Georgia Straight on it and the concept sounds interesting. They make use of charter planes that are normally used to transport oil workers in Alberta that typically sit dormant on weekends and see if they can get enough people to charter it for a leisure flight. The flight only goes ahead if enough people commit to it by a certain date. All of the flights so far seem to have been to/from Calgary but it sounds like they are trying to figure out how to expand the cities they hit based on interest.
The appeal is supposed to be cheap flights but on first glance, it's not looking really cheap. They had charters for YYC to LAS at $479 and that kind of how much you can get a flight from YVR to LAS for on WS on sale I think. And with low oil prices starting to hit the Alberta oil fields, who knows what the availability of planes will be now (eg. who knows if there will be more planes sitting around or less because they'll be reallocated for some other purpose). |
Not sure how much fuel, crew and operating costs (namely, variable maintenance costs and other variable expenses) are but I suspect these must be exceeded by revenues to make it worthwhile. No big spenders in premium seats or last-minute walk-up fares to make it cheap for everyone. Same as with other jet charters.

I am wondering if anyone knows about their new "product": "Jump On Bids"
https://www.gojumpon.com/about/overview/ Scroll down to the bottom to "Vision: Fill Every Seat" and they talk about bidding on scheduled airlines empty seats. It sounds like it's not limited to charter hires? |
