Canada Day in Vancouver

I'm going to Granville Island.

Though I'm from Vancouver, it's been six years since I lived here, and a year and a half since I last visited. I feel like a tourist in my own city.

I've done Canada Day at Ambleside in West Van, Canada Day in Sechelt, the fireworks downtown... so I'm going to see what goes on out on Granville Island.

Happy to be home the one week that Vancouver gets nice hot weather.

Hokey Pete, today was a scorcher!

Was going to try to do a trifecta today hitting up the parades in Steveston, GI, and Canada Place/downtown but was too slow out the door. Parking in Steveston is brutal if either you don't get there early or can park at a friend's house. Saw there was a shuttle service this year but was too lazy to try it.

Started out at Hastings Park which was supposed to have some kind of Canada Day event going on. Was pretty busy but nothing really Canada Day'ish so we ditched.

Got to GI which was busy but was surprised parking was pretty easy to come by in our favourite spots near Lobsterman/Keg area. So much stuff going on all over the island.

Watched the parade downtown which was pretty decent. Got some decent elevated "seats" on a wall in front of the Qube condo.
Walked down to English Bay to watch the sunset afterwards.

We were going to end the night watching the Canada Place fireworks by the 9 o'clock gun but they blocked the perimeter road. Ended up just going home since it's a "school night" anyways. Will be better prepared next year and bring our bikes in the trunk. :)

All in all, a gorgeous day in Vancouver, activities happening everywhere, and positive energy all around.

Canada Day in YVR

We began the holiday by cycling around Stanley Park! Bikes ^courtesy of the Hotel Vancouver!!
My personal favorite was the annual Cannabis Festival on Granville Street!
The fireworks (10:30 pm) were not great. Ottawa has better. Public transit was the way to go.......silky smooth!

Annual Cannabis Festival? I'm pretty sure there's more Cannabis Festivals than that... I miss the grass in front of the Art Gallery.

What is trolling?

I was in Van but I'm not a troll...

Yeah, and sadly I had to walk past all the smelly smells and mulch in front of the Art Gallery, which I learned is no longer going to be in its beautiful building :(

When visitor would confuse it with the old supermarket chain. :D

It was changed as part of repatriated constitution(1982???)

Kind of a stupid name, really. Imagine how much teasing our neighbours would get if July 4th was "United States Day."
