Toronto Immigration Time
How long does it take European (UK) nationals to clear immigration in Toronto typically?
I am arriving from London (bus class if that makes a difference) on Air Canada at 3:05pm on a Monday. I am travelling on to Sarnia. I could either get a car (taxi) or fly. Flight to Sarnia departs at 18:40. If immigration & baggage will take <~1 hour it makes sense to get a car to Sarnia. Otherwise I would fly. Price is about the same. Any thoughts? |
My preference would probably be to take the flight to Sarnia, if the price is similar to renting a car. I'd rather not step off a trans-Atlantic flight and drive for three hours in a foreign country, and then have to drive three hours on the way back too.
Customs in Toronto will not be more than an hour -- usually it is relatively quick and certainly less than an hour, but just how long depends on what the passenger load in the airport is at the time of your arrival. |
Wait for the Sarnia flight, full stop.
To pick up a rental car you will need to shuttle to the rental location and wait in line to pick up a vehicle with all the controls on the wrongs side, then drive through rush hours on the right side of the road for 250-300kms in stop and go traffic until at least Waterloo or London when your body clock is at late night. If you fly the 1840h flight to Sarnia you will be resting in a bed before you arrive by car assuming everything is running smoothly. |
