Question about checking in..
 

Hi all,

I post this question here specifically because it's in Canada, but more specifically (if it applies) at YTZ.

Next week I'll be flying out of YTZ using Porter and any time I fly, if there's a self serve kiosk I'll use it first, but it's got me wondering what the point actually is, as I always end up in line at the check-in counter anyway, usually to drop off bags.

Given that I'm going to be travelling very light this time around, if I do carry on instead of checked, can I use the kiosk, bypass the check-in line completely, and go straight to security?

I know it may seem like a silly question. I figure a large percentage of people of checked luggage. There should be some option to allow these people to use the self serve kiosk still.

Okay guys I have ONE more question about checking in. I didn't ask last time because I had no such luck on my last porter flight.

Today, I was able to do web check-in on my flight and was given as PassBook boarding pass. Does this mean I can skip the regular check-in counter AND the self serve kiosk and go straight to security with just my iPhone? When I went through security in December I remember them taking my boarding pass and scanning it right before going through the metal detector.

Yes. You will have to pass off your iphone briefly to security and they will scan it through the screen. SImilarly when you get on the plane they will scan your phone.

I have found that sometimes there are challenges with this type of technology (though they've been getting better in recent years). If it doesn't work for some reason you'll simply have to go back and get a printed boarding pass.

Perfect! I'm sure I will get a lot of resistance from the Mrs, but hopefully I can give it a shot.
