Newfoundland in September?
I think I've basically decided on going to newfoundland/east coast in first week or first 2 weeks of september.
I definitely want to go MAINLY for photography... - Is september an okay time to go? It looks like the 2nd highest rainfall month... - Is 1 week long enough for newfoundland? - Any POIs for photography? - Any other recommendations/help? I guess I will have missed the seabirds, icebergs and whale watching... but oh well - next time! I'm just not sure if Newfoundland is still definitely a good place to visit and photograph in September or if I should choose another place and visit there next summer... |
Hi, I was in Newfoundland the first week of September last year and the weather great....sunny and warm if not hot on a couple of days.
I took the ferry over from North Sydney to Port aux Basques and returned on the overnight 14 hour crossing from Argentia after driving across to St. John’s. A straight coast to coast run on the Trans Canada in 950 kms but get off the TCH and explore the side roads into smaller communities. And definitely take the short ferry ride to Fogo Island.....incredible! Temp was in the mid 20s and sunny the day I was there but the icebergs were still quite visible off the coast. You’ll also want to visit Gros Morne National Park......a UNESCO World Heritage Site. |
I was also there last September, and the weather was gorgeous.
I'd go - the island is beautiful, the people hospitable, and it's a unique part of Canada with a very special culture. Also, while the weather is still decent in September, you miss the big tourist crowds. That can be good and bad - easier to find accommodation last-minute, few to no crowds, but some places may be closed or operating on a reduced schedule. |

Yes did a one week drive - ferry to the west and drove to the east. First full week in September after the long weekend. PRO
