If you are a US citizen, why do you need a visa?

6 months no worries and if you want to extend it, drive across the border and drive back.

You can not however work in Canada unless you get the proper visa but to visit, anytime.

Just tell them 3 months. When I visited Canada before I was a resident, I would routinely be given 6 months at a time, even though my vacation was 2-3 weeks.

They don't give you anything, and you don't ask, as you get 6 months like all arrivals of citizens of the USA.

canada extension

hey as a us citizen how likely is it that I will be given an extension to remain in canada after I already been here for 6 months.

If I wanted to stay longer I would return home and come back.
It's not as if the US border is thousands of miles away.

Why don't you do a border run? Cross the nearest land crossing and then drive back in??

You can't extend a working visa but you will be legally able to stay in Canada for another six months.

It's subject to approval by CIC/CBSA.

Staying 6 months, and then applying for a extension, you better have a good reason for it, for chances of approval of a visitor extension. Otherwise it may be denied. Specially without a job.....

First you said you wanted 3 months, and then you ask about extension AFTER the 6 months......something isn't right...
