Nova Scotia for a week

My wife and I will be spending about a week in Nova Scotia. We expect to spend a few nights in Halifax, and then drive to some of the smaller towns for overnight visits.

Any thoughts on where to stay?

ps: Any hotel or B&B suggestions for Saint John are also appreciated.

While I don't have any answers to your question, I've alerted a mod to move your post to the 'Canada' forum, which might get better answers than it does here. Good luck!

Lunenburg is a nice small town...worthy of a stay/or afternoon then you can visit the Ovens which is nice too.

YSJ is my hometown. The two best hotels are within 500 m of each other and are connected by indoor walkways. Hilton is located on the harbour, and the Saint John Delta is part way up King Street in Brunswick Square. Both hotels would be good bases for exploring the historic downtown on foot. A few suggestions: King Square, Old Courthouse, Old City Market, Loyalist House, Trinity Royal Block, Germain Street, Barbour's General Store, Harbour Passage, etc.

There are many B&B's, some in elegant old Georgian or Victorian homes, but I have no direct experience with them (too many family members to stay with).

Besides Lunenburg there is also Peggy's Cove. Cape Breton is worth a visit.

There's a Saint John in Nova Scotia? I thought it was in New Brunswick.

Time to go to PEI? I've never been, but it's on my list!

Nova Scotia has some classic hotels (some owned by the government) that are unique and memorable. The Westin Nova Scotian in Halifax is by the historic pier and railway station on the waterfront. Any or all of the resorts would make a fine destination: Keltic Lodge (Cape Breton), Liscombe Lodge (east shore) and Digby Pines.

I was thinking of doing a trip to Nova Scotia sometime next year. What is the best time of year to go?

The best place in NS

I forgot about the Normaway Lodge in the Margaree Valley on Cape Breton. Excellent food, entertainment scenery, hospitality. Nothing was as good even though it's not on the ocean.

It is in New Brunswick, but an easy drive around the Bay of Fundy to get there.
