Parking in/near Toronto

I am going to have a car in Ontario and will be staying in downtown Toronto for 3 nights. While I'm in Toronto I don't want to use the car at all. The hotel wants $40/day for overnight parking. I know parking downtown is a pain, so are there any reasonable/free alternatives, perhaps slightly outside of town, even if it requires a subway ride to get there?

There are various parking lots at the airport.

Otherwise you can likely find parking at a city run lot (Green P).

Which hotel will you be staying at? Can likely help narrow things down if the location is better known.

Will be staying at the Residence Inn downtown (Entertainment District).

The GO train lots are free and there is a stated 48 hour limit (http://www.gotransit.com/public/en/t...g/parking.aspx), the enforcement of which is unknown to me. The lot at highway 401 and Leslie (Oriole GO Station) has nonstop low cost train service at rush hour to Union station (Richmond Hill Line) and some buses as well as TTC service (#51 and Sheppard Subway). The GO transit site has lots of information.

This option worked great for me last week. Thanks for the idea. One additional note though...if you arrive outside of GO operating hours, the Leslie TTC station is about a 10 minute walk from the parking lot.

You're welcome. FWIW the #51 Leslie bus stops at the corner by the Oriole GO Station and goes to the subway station and there is a free (no paper) transfer at the station (northbound) until late in the evening. From Leslie Station, look for the 51 southbound platform to get to the lot. GO also has buses that stop at the bus stop nearest the GO station near the parking lot when trains aren't running.
