Banff Hotel Recommendations
 

Does anyone have any recent reviews of any hotels in Banff, or suggestions on where to stay in Banff. I'm familiar with the Fairmont and comments regarding the same in the Fairmont forum, but does anyone have any comments regarding any of Banff's other hotels?

It would depend what level of hotel you are looking for. At top end, I would suggest BSH or Rimrock. You will find arguments for both on this website. I prefer Banff Springs, but both will provide excellent stays.

I am not too familiar with other hotels, because I always stay at BS, but I hear the Fox Inn and Suites is a great hotel as well.

Essentially a clean bed in a room that offers decent views in a location that is centrally located (within walking distance) to most, if not all, of Banff's offerings and hiking trails.

I don't need room service or to feel like royalty, but if I'm paying several hundred dollars a night for a room, I at least want to feel like I'm getting a good value.

I have been booking Banff Springs lately for 129 a night with the friends and family deal (see fairmont forum)

I'd stay in Canmore. The views from almost any of the good hotels(Pocaterra Inn is my favourite) are far better than in Banff. Plus the hotels are cheaper. Banff is only 20 minutes away and to be perfectly honest Kananaskis Country is far better than the immediate surrounding of Banff. Canmore has everything that Banff has except some of the rowdier nightlife and overpriced shopping.:D

For trips when I can't find a decent rate at the Banff Springs, I usually stay at either the Banff Park Lodge or Mount Royal Hotel. While definitely not in the same class as the Springs, both are clean, comfortable, and perfectly located in the centre of town.

I do agree, Canmore is lovely and if you have a car, or are on a budget a great choice.

If you will be car-less or money is no big deal then Banff is the way to go.

If you want a view in Banff you will be paying for it.

Most of the decent lodging is on the main road, but really your view is limited to the surrounding mountains or the street out front.

What price range are you looking at?
Do you have a vehicle?

It should be noted, Canmore gives more bang for your buck, but it -is- outside of the park so you would also have to factor in paying your entry fee and perhaps some wait times at the gates.


My personal favourites in Banff are #1 The Hidden Ridge Resort, fricking awesome fireplace in your living room!
It's like being in your very own place. (It would also fulfill your requirement of having a nice view, as it has great views)

#2 The Banff Caribou Lodge, again for fulfilling your requirements.

The service at the Rimrock Resort has repeatedly been an unexpected disappointment for me, so I avoid it and instead seem to often end up unexpectedly delighted with the Delta Banff Royal Canadian Lodge in town itself.

With Car, Stay in Canmore. They have some really nice and affordable resort like Accomondations. (Trip Advisor it)

Stoneridge Resort and Falcon Crest Lodge are both very good.

IIRC you can sometimes (when there's space) book a room at the conference center up the hill from Banff, with walking paths to the town. It's a campus-like setting close to nature that I would describe as probably 3.5 stars and perhaps not a good value for money, but it's a different experience that some people might prefer. Expect close encounters with elk.
