Most scenic route between Vancouver and Kamloops

What is the most scenic route between Vancouver and Kamloops? I'll be on a driving trip and looking for scenery and stuff to do in between the two cities rather than purely the fastest drive. However, I do need to finish the drive in one day.

Let me know!

Thanks!

Not too many routes that don't really take a long way around. All offer different things to see/do. Going up Howe Sound via Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton takes you through the Coast Mountain range. Get into the Fraser Canyon at Lilloett & Cache Creek and on to Kamloops. This would be my favored route as I like the coastal range.

The other two routes would be out through the Fraser Valley to Hope (not too scenic), then either up the Fraser Canyon at Hope to Cache Creek or direct via the Coquihalla. There's more to see and do past Hope. Pretty scenic if you're from the lowland east coast but somewhat ho-hum to those of us who live here.

I'll second this route as the most scenic - Howe Sound, then moutains - Duffy Lake road is gorgeous:

While doable in a day, it is the longest route though in terms of time - Probably 7 hours driving time, 9 hours with some stops along the way.

When will you make the trip? One or more of the scenic routes could be closed or impassable during part of the Winter.

You have four choices.

1. The Whistler, Pemberton and Duffy Lake route. Very scenic, I've driven it just once as it is out of the way, narrow and windy (twisting and turning). You do not want to be in a rush.

2. Hwy 1 to Hope then the Fraser canyon. Scenic, slow going in places, but nice.

3. Hwy 1 to Hope then the Coqhihalla. This is the easiest route. 110kmh speed limit once north of Hope, a four to six lane mountainous freeway. I like the scenery on this route. I drive the Coquihalla close to weekly and still like it. Set your cruise and go. Depending on time of year, watch for freak snow storms on this road.

4. Hwy 1 to Hope, then HWY 3 to Penticton and then north on HWY97 through the Okanagan. Again a very beautiful drive though Manning Park onto Penticton, then head north through the Okanagan to the 'loops.

Time of year and interests should be a factor.

Will you be doing the drive in both directions? Alter the routes?
