No more Square One - YYZ GO Bus!
So GO Transit have, in their infinite wisdom, cut the Square One - YYZ service, and now the only alternative is Missisauge Transit which appears to take twice as long (35 mins as opposed to 15 mins).
This is particularly bad for me, as I happen to work at McMaster University, which has its own GO bus station and excellent non-stop GO bus links to Square One. Until now, I could get from my office to YYZ check-in within 90 minutes, point-to-point, including waiting for transfers and walking at each end - for a little over $9 one-way ^ Until now, a complete no-brainer, and excellent value. But now things are getting daft. It appears that you now cannot get a single through ticket, and have to deal with two transit systems with increased potential for delays (I've not tried the MT's Malton Express yet, but am looking at two trips ex-YYZ later this month - but adding an extra 20 mins to the scheduled journey doesn't fill me with glee). It was bad enough when they cut the service to hourly last year, but this just seems ludicrous... For a so-called "world class city", I can't see any evidence of public transit options to/from YYZ being high on anyone's priority... then again, I guess I was spoiled living in London (the real world-class one, that is :p) |
Square One? In Mississauga?
Is a World-class city? Hazel? Is that you?!? :D The GO cuts, I presume, are a combination of the major funding cuts to public transportation in Ontario by the Provincial government and lower ridership than other services. That's nothing compared to the $4B in public transportation works halted in the City of Toronto (the other world-class city in Ontario, besides Mississauga) perfectly timed to have been finished before the Pan-Am games! |

Is that you?!? :D Look, it's all GTA... all of 'em go the wrong way to reach the lake ;) Like I said, I come from a *real* world-class city (if I had a quarter playing buzzword bingo every time I hear that friggin' cliche, I'd have my own plane by now!) Vitriol, pedanty, and suchlike aside - I know I'm supposed to set my sights lower having moved over this side of the pond. And I've already had my fair share of first-hand experiences of what I am told is provincial 'government' in action  Utterly crazy that what was, not even a year ago, was a fairly decent public transport link to YYZ has been decimated (although given the lack of publicity for it, hardly surprising). |
To the op: I understand your frustration. Sometimes, on the weekend, I catch the GO from SQ 1 to Toronto. And whenever the YYZ bus pulls up, a lot of times, it's empty. Did you see a lot of people on your rides?
I think the service was too frequent. Or GO should have used their cheaper regional bus, as oppose to those big ones. I think maybe they cut it because it was losing money. But maybe one day, they'll bring it back. |
It sucks that the GO Bus has been stopped. The 7 bus takes way too long. Does anyone know how much it costs to take a shuttle/shared van from YYZ to Square One?

Has anyone tried this:
The 107 Malton Express route provides rush-hour express service between Square One and Malton via Viscount LINK Station. I may end up trying this out on Friday... |

(source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto...al_Airport#Bus) I may end up trying this out on Friday... " New Mississauga Transit Route 107–Malton Express to Westwood Mall Mar 15, 2010 Starting next week, Mississauga Transit will provide a new limited-stop express service between the City Centre Transit Terminal (Square One) and Westwood Mall. "The Route 107–Malton Express will offer passengers a faster way to travel between the City Centre Transit Terminal and Westwood Mall since the trip is about 25 minutes shorter than a comparable trip on other routes," said Director of Mississauga Transit Geoff Marinoff. "The service also stops at Viscount Station at Toronto Pearson International Airport for passengers who want to board the LINK Train to Terminal 1 or Terminal 3." The service begins on Monday, March 22, 2010. It will be available from Monday to Friday during the morning and evening rush hours. Buses will depart stops every 15-16 minutes. "Passengers on the Route 107–Malton Express will also benefit from convenient connections with Route 110–University – another limited-stop express service operating between the Clarkson GO Station; the UTM Campus; and City Centre Transit Terminal. This will reduce trip times in half for customers riding transit from Clarkson to Westwood Mall," explained Marinoff. Identifying decals have been placed at all Route 107–Malton Express bus stops to help customers identify the service. |
Would GO #46 to Bramalea station - then city bus #101 "airport express" to YYZ work?
http://www.brampton.ca/en/residents/...uments/101.pdf You would need to cross to the north side of Steeles avenue to catch 101 though. |
Updating this thread after taking the 107 the week before last:

The only thing to be aware of is that there's a short walk from the Viscount bus stop to the actual LINK train station - I wouldn't want to do it in winter! BTW changing at Bramalea isn't something I'd recommend - I tried this on a previous occasion, it's a long enough walk with just carry-on, there is no information or staff at the stop you need to continue to YYZ, and makes for a pretty disorienting and stressy experience if you're not familiar with the locale (like me). Overall, the Square One transfer to the MT 107 is a far better option, IMO. |
