Price Comparison: Toronto vs. Ottawa
Hello FTers,
I am a graduate student in Ottawa and will be attending a major convention in Toronto come early March. How do prices in Toronto compare to a comparable item (e.g. food) in Ottawa. I will be spending my time in the vicinity of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Thanks! ~FAI PDX Flyer :) |
Well, McDonald's prices in YOW are exactly the same as McDonald's prices in YYZ. I'm fairly certain that a double double at Timmies is the same in both cities too.

It's EXACTLY the same in both cities. Some high prices, some low prices, some great food, some terrible food, and everything in between.
Afraid you'd like to be a little more specific with your question in order to get a more specific answer. What I CAN say, is the Metro Convention Centre is about as touristy an area as you can find in Toronto, so prices in the area will reflect that. Cheers, |
I would recommend going to a grocery store and stock up on some essentials - drinks, fruit, snacks to hold you over during the day (there is a Rabba's nearby, but try to go to a real one in the vicinity). While there are a few restaurants in the Convention Centre area, they are more expensive and touristy. I would recommend King St W (past the theatre district between Peter and Spadina - still touristy but cheaper than Front/Wellington St) or Queen St W (Thai, Indian, Sushi) for food, as it is usually cheaper and better.
Another option if you are on a tight budget is to go to the bun shops in Chinatown on Dundas St. For about a buck a bun, it is very economical! |
