Dog sledding from Jasper
It seems there should be somebody running dog sled tours around Japser. Does anybody have any experiences, recommendations, general advice?
I'm really looking for a 1-2 hour trip, not a major expedition and recognize that transportation to/from the kennels probably makes it into a half day excursion. |
Jasper is a great place to go.
AFAIK you have to drive quite a bit in order to go dogsledding, the nearest opportunity should be in Valemount in BC. Sundogtours is one of the major tour operators in Jasper and offers an all-inclusive package (pick-up/drop-off at hotel, dogsledding & lunch), but it´s more like a half-day excursion: www.sundogtours.com/sightseeing_winter_dogsledding.php You might also want to contact Brewster and the Jasper Adventure Center to see whether they offer anything similar (in general both offer some very good tours) If you have any further questions about Jasper/the Rockies, feel free to PM me. |

Thanks. Given that the drive is about 1.25 hours each way and the tour includes lunch, this probably is 1-2 hours of dogsledding, so is probably just about right. I have been foiled in 2 previous attempts to go dogsledding in Canada (once because the operator decided to shut down and once by travel agent screw-up) so I really care about using someone reliable.
I guess the dogsledding tour is more likely to be cancelled due to weather, but if you spend a couple of days in Jasper you should be able to take part in a tour. (I guess in case the tour is cancelled you´ll also get a full refund) I would recommend booking the tour either through the hotel´s concierge or by contacting the tour operators directly (I´m also pretty sure both Jasper Adventure Center and Sundogtours have an office in Jasper all year round) |
