10 hours layover at YVR--what to do?
Hi,
I am considering to book a flight PVG-YVR-YYZ-DCA, and there is a 10-hour layover at YVR. Unlike your big-shot fliers, I don't have access to whatever clubs, how to spend this 10-hour layover? Any insight would be much appreciated! --JR |

go downtown get some sushi.

Granville Island is always worth checking out.
Right between the airport and downtown, lots of shops, restaurants, artsy events going on that should keep you busy Bridges restaurant on the island has not only good eats but awesome views on the water. |
Go to the Vancouver Airport Fairmont, $10 gets you into the gym, including showers.

Grab your hiking shoes, head to North Vancouver, and hike ~ 1.5-2 hrs on the Grouse Grind! :p

Thank you guys, I just booked DCA-YYZ-YVR-HKG for 12/5, and PVG-YVR-YYZ-DCA for 1/9/10, for $935.24 all in. May not be the best price and/or the most optimal route, but fits my need and I can still afford it.
Yes the I like the 10-hour layover at YVR, but I am not a big fan of outdoor and first time to YVR, so I will probably get a daily pass for $9, go downtown for some Sushi or Chinese, wander around and get back to YVR around 7PM. Just to make sure, a US passport is all I needed right? Please don't laugh, first time transiting in USA junior. Thanks! |

Once you hit YYZ you'll have to clear Canadian Customs then re-clear security to do the YYZ-YVR segment. When you get to YVR you'll be landing domestic and can just walk out of the airport. |

You'll really like our city and we have great restaurants, but please stay away from the Main & Hastings area as it the biggest blight in Canada and doesn't accurately represent our city. It rivals the worst area in most third world countries and our city is so much more than that. ( |

OK, you are talking about the DCA-HKG flight. Now what about PVG-DCA? Will I be clearing US/Canadian custom at YVR, and landing domestic at YYZ?

It will be rainy around 1/9/10. Be sure you have warm and waterproof clothing. AC PVG-YVR flgihts arrives around 1130hr. So by the time you clear Canada customs and transfer your luggage, it is time for lunch.
Buy a one day public transit pass for CAD$9.00. Take the Canada Line Skytrain to downtown and transfer to Seabus. Take the Seabus to Lonsdale Quay and have lunch there. Enjoy the skyline of Vancouver. Take the Seabus back to Vancouver side, enjoy downtown, Robson St., Stanley Park, Gastown, Chinatown etc on public transit. Don't miss Japa Dogs at the corner of Burrard St and Haro St. Only in Vancouver. PM me for details. |

- Waterfront Station - wander through Gastown on Water Street - Vancouver Centre - Shopping and Robson Street - Yaletown Station - Wander through Yaletown - old warehouse district converted to shops and restaurants. Also, walk to the water-end of Davie and catch the water taxi to Granville Island from there. Then back again to rejoin Canada Line - Oakridge Station - Fancy higher-end shops in Oakridge mall. - Bridgeport Station - Large Casino resort, but pretty much only gambling. Note - on your way back to YVR - ensure you get a YVR-bound train, there are two destinations. |
